I am considering very much changing from regular motor oil to syntethic and right now im thinking of using Mobil 1 but i wanted to know your experiences and your thoughts about the different oils

i run mobil 1, if i were you going from conventional oil to synthetic base, i would use synthetic blend for a few oil changes then go to syntethic. castrol is also very good.

I use Valvoline SynPower synthetic, and I am not of the opinion that it is needed to run a blend for any amount of time before switching to full synthetic. Your car does not need to be weined from Dino oil.

ummmm, if you are making the switch, hopefully all of your seals are fine, synthetic is alot less thick and will find those little crevices to leak through

Just as a note... I'm pretty sure the factory prescribed lubricant is synthetic. There are some seal and gasket materials that do not stand up well to conventional oils, so running conventional when synthetic is called for could be a pretty bad idea.

And second... Viscosity is the resistance to flow measured at a specific gravity and temp. Synthetic or conventional, equally rated oils will leak the same either way; one is not more prone to leakage than the other, all else being equal.

I agree with your logic, but thinking back, I used Motorcraft Dino up until 50k because I was worried about warranty issues, when I switched to synthetic is when I had the problem with the VC gasket leaking. Probably just a coincidence, though

I would venture to guess that's a coincidence. Synthetic is a more "friendly" type of oil that is less prone to cause deterioration of gasket and seal materials. Check the owner's manual; I can't swear to this but I believe the prescribed motorcraft oil is a synthetic.

So I should use syntethic blend????

Check your owner's manual to be sure but I believe it calls for full synthetic. Don't worry about switching from conventional straight to synthetic; there is no need to move to blend, then graduate to synthetic.

From the '03 owner's manual:

5W-20 synthetic blend.

Just go hard and put in synthetic. Dont worry about switching to a blend first. I have been using mobil 1 for the past few years in my cars and it works really well.

That looks about right. I just checked my owner's manual (03) page 272 and 274 both specify synthetic blend. Eitherway, using conventional oil is not advised. I run 100% synthetic in all my cars. Any of the major brands of oil are good, and a lot of the off brands are identical to some of the major brands. I personally run valvoline. But there's your options... synthetic blend or full synthetic.

That's correct--as long as you were running oil that met the Ford specs, you do not need to wean your LS off of dino juice. Just go for the Mobil1 and call it good.

I can tell you that I run Mobil1 in all of my cars and trucks with the exception of my Triumph Spitfire--it leaks oil out the pan gasket too fast to waste Mobil1 on it right now--and I've never had a problem with oil consumption after the first change with Mobil1.

a blend is not a mix so to speak of synthetic and non synthetic IINM.
IIRC, a "synthetic blend" is dino juice "converted" to synthetic--ie, they start with a petroleum base and create the synthetic compounds from that. "Full" synthetics (like Mobil1 and Amsoil) do not have any dino juice in them at all.
