What makes the turn signal/blinker noise? (Not functioning)

Hello all, I have a 2000 Lincoln ls 3.9.

The turn signal noise went out. The indicator lamps and actual turn signals work fine, just the noise is gone.

I can't find any information on what actually makes the noise, does anyone know if it is built into the multifunction switch, or if it is a separate noise maker? And if so, where is it located?

Think it use to be a inline transistor or relay on most cars. This could be in the board or the switch but it would seem like the board or a wiring problem if that is happening. It could be simple or very time consuming, may not be worth fixing, could end up subing parts, having to look at wiring diagrams.
