What is your exhaust setup, and how do you like it?

Currently I have the front two cats hollowed out, no third cat or resonator, and no mufflers, but following the same dual/single/dual path.

I finally have the sound level I want, and boy does it sound mean.

BUT, There is this nagging little noise that sounds like there is a sheet of paper caught in the exhaust that I believe adding a simple muffler would fix.

My car sounded good with the front two cats still stuffed with their material, but EVERYONE kept telling me how it sounded like an outboard motor underwater

My question is, what are my options as far as exhaust goes?

I would like to just cut out a piece of pipe and add in a muffler somewhere under the middle of the car. That and If I get pulled over for no muffler one day it won't be pretty...

But do keep this in mind, I do plan to park my car slammed once I get all the suspension woes sorted out.

So with that being said, what type of setup do you all have on your base models? Dual/single/dual stock location and modified? Or true duals? and if true duals can you still make your car sit down??

Thanks

Jesse

I have the stock LSC dual exhaust with the mufflers cut off, and I love the way it sounds. I felt a little bit of a power gain when I cut them off too. The only thing I would change is I'd like to get a set of longtube headers under it with some high-flow cats, and when I do that, it will probably make it too loud without any mufflers, so maybe I'll put in one of those magnaflow x-pipe mufflers when I get around to that.

true dual 2.5" piping with Dynamax Ultra Flow 2in2out muffler placed in the middle of the car. Stock Tips no 3rd cat or rear mufflers

Sounds amazing and performs great

I have the 3rd cat removed and an x pipe from a GT500 KR in place, 2 1/2 dual back to magnaflow magnapack mufflers...I LOVE IT!!!

97 LSC, Stock piping, 3rd cat removed, 2.5 x pipe, no mufflers....

HATE IT

It sounds like a weedwacker piece of Sh!t,not all the time but when you rev in neutral or taking off from a dead stop if im half throttle, if no one believes me...come hear it! Its horrible!!!!!!

My girlfriend has a 98 base, resonator removed and no muffs, sounds GREAT.

I've listened to alot of exhaust clips and have asked some questions about it recently and come to the conclusion that no 3rd cat with the x in place with no muffs out the back is why my car sounds like JUNK right now.

I know that outboard motor sound all to well. :(

Taking it to geno as soon as he says come on down and getting a set of xpansion on it...should get that rattling bumble be fart can out of the exhuast.

Its driving me nuts.

I just posted topic "my 180.00 exhaust", a have a couple of clips and the setup.

I really like it, sounds great at all speeds.

cats and resinator gone. Magnaflow dual in dual out with built in x pipe in middle of car, and SS tubing all the way back to magnaflow polished SS Tips. If i were to ever do another exhaust on a mark, I would do the exact same thing, except id add some headers.

Stock tubing (97 lsc), no 3rd cat (x-pipe), flowmaster 40 series in the back with 4" reactive tips.

I freakin love it, as does everyone else who has heard it.

Well I had the stock LSC exhaust (too quiet), then I had the mufflers hacked off and added tips (sounded ok but just not enuff), then I had the x-pipe put in place of the 3rd cat and it was getting there (the wifey couldnt stand it), so finally I bit the bullet and took out the x-pipe put in a Flowmaster Delta Flow with bigger pipes and new MagnaFlow tips (couldn't beat the smile off my face and the wifey likey). Sounds like a stang with more balls.:)

stock cats into 2.5 double x pipe with lms mufflers. Sounds real good but on long trips the cabin drone is a little much and my whole car is dynamated. Has gotten worse with time...been on about 4 years now.

I'd love to find some manifolds without a dam catylitic converter made onto it. That irritates me. If it didn't have that cat on it. I woulda had an X and flows already.

Is there truely room for dual exhaust on these cars??? Keep in mind I do want to slam it in the future..

Get some Cobra manifold, cats unbolt from both sides....

There is plenty of room for duals... you just run the pipes side by side...

But arent the manifold bolt patterns different to keep them from bolting up to the heads??

On my local forum I could probably come across a set of those within 24hrs

Around $700 for Kooks headers
$100 Bassani high flow race cats
$80 2.5" monster X pipe
$150 for a 2.5" manderal bent T-bird cat back kit
$120 for 2 SLP loudmouth I mufflers
$60 for various manderal bent 2.5" pipe
$400 for custom install (very good job)
So all together $1610 for a bad a$$ set-up!!
A short vid

Now im happy.

lms xpansions and an x pipe

Its exactly what i was looking for.

thumbs up to geno and the guys at his shop, very nice work.
