Well in Massachusetts were I live, if your under 18 and get a speeding ticket you lose your licence for 90 days. What do you think about that? And for the first 6 months you can't drive any one beside family unless there 18 or older and have a lisnece for one year or more and if your cought you lose your licence and have to take drivers edd and the whole procedure again.
I have Prom soon and i want to dive my Date but I can't but if i have some one thats 18 or older in the car with me i can drive my date too right? How do cops know how long you have driven for it dosnt say on my licence. my car is not registered under me its under my grandmother and she has a different last name than i do will the cop give me crap about that if i get pulled over? how do the cops know that the kid next to me is not my brother or sister or is he/she a friend. cant i say there my brother or sister?

Don't get me wrong, I understand where you're coming from, but I kind of like those laws

While Murphy's law may rear its head, its best to drive LIKE your grandma. Dont do anything stupid, don't drink, dont give them a reason to pull you over. Your license should have a date issued on it, and yes they can tell when you got it just by looking up your name or driver's license number...

Its a bunch of BullCrap -you kids should get together have a rally on beacon hill, more and more the gov telling the citizens what they can and cant do next thing they will tell you you need to spend 1grand a month on health ins oh wait a minute they have already done that-America the land of the free
DONT BELIEVE IT FOR SECOND!!!!!!!!!

thats horsesh*t..here in minnesota it took me 4 tickets in a year to get my license pulled for 30 days back in high school...but just be careful don't give any cop a reason to pull you over

I can under stand the law about the tickets but only its kinda harsh for one offence. i mean if its like 20 or 30 over ya take the lisence away but if it like 5-10 over there should be a second chance. i dont drink so i dont have to worry about that. I realy want to drive my Prom date and cant because politicians in Boston think teens get in more crashes than any other age group. thats a lie. i did a project on it and i found out its the elderly ( no offence to any one elderly) that get in more crashes than teens. i did find the date on my licence, the smallest numbers i ever seen. im just looking at what can be changed. im not going to attract attention to myself on the road cause theres no point in doing that. ill just got to new england drag way and go as fast as i can.

Not to disagree with you tri, you are right that the elderly do get in more crashes. Its the severity though. The elderly have a lot less tendency to drive drunk and cause deaths. The numbers can look good 30 different ways, it depends on how you break down the data.

Besides, the prom date defense may work in front of a judge IF you get in trouble as long there are no major offenses.

And do you think you will be the ONLY one doing this? Nope! But it is a risk indeed....

There is a reason they call that State Marxachusetts.

You guys have some of the higest taxes around, and apparently some of the goofiest laws out there... and I thought the Independent Communist Republic of Kalifornia was bad...

Hey don't forget the Socialist state of Minnesota! We have some of the highest taxes in the country.

Unity your right. i wanted to start this to see what other people think of this. yes some teens will drive drunk but i have seen many people in there 20s and 30s drive drunk. there are more kids at 18 and 19 driving drunk than there are when kids get the licence. so a 6 month thing is not the best way to handle it. maybe make it so that if some one is cought driving drunk they lose the licence right there. i know people that have been cought driving drunk and just got a sitation for $200 and that was that. that to me seems stupid but yet i cant drive some one when im sober. if you ask me thats not right. i can drive my brother and sister around but i will be a better driver if im worried about the people in my car. instead of no friends maybe just like 1 friend and 2 siblings and have a limit to the people in your car till 18. i could live with that but i cant drive any friends all summer and my partents work so they cant pick them up.

i think politicians are going overboard on laws. its our own fault, public complains too much and when we get our way its still not enough, then we sue left and right.

if you are responsible then these restrictions shouldnt apply. being dumb is a handicap that should be on drivers licenses just like corrective lenses

Iam from mass and it sucks azz i have lossed my license too many times the laws are ridiculous here. The fuzz also are harsh around here ... anyway it all depends on what kind of night the cop is having and or what kind of cop is pulling u over

ya i have delt with cops that think there all that and have won the argument. (not car related)( practicing for the race season on my atv) i know how to keep cool under pressure  . racing atvs is alot of pressure.

i have a friend that lost his licence twice. now he has a lincoln mark 8 with side pipes and a h pipe. sounds nasty. he also made a convertable out of a 94 base that he was junking because it had to many things wrong with it.

cant i say there my brother or sister?

LMAO
Cops aren't driving around town oblivious to "special events." EVERY cop working in that city will know it's prom night! I'm sure there is going to be some kind of briefing before the shift starts and they will know when prom starts and when it ends. I would NOT use that, "she's my sister story either. If you do, you're really asking for it! Imagine you get pulled over... "License and registration son... What are the two of you up to tonight...Oh nothing sir just taking my sister out to eat...Your taking your sister out?... yes sir...Do you always wear a tuxedo and does your sister always wear such an extravagant dress"....You'll have better chance telling him your under-cover cop trying to bust kids with restricted licenses on prom night.

You see where I'm going... You pull that crap and your ass is done. I had to deal with similar restrictions in California when I was a minor. Just deal with it! It's only one night, and police are aware that many kids will be breaking the law but they're probably not going to bust you as long as you’re smart, courteous, and honest and explain your situation... If you even get pulled over. Don't act like a punk and you should have anything to worry about. Have fun, and don’t let something like this ruin your fun.
Don’t drink n" drive, peer pressure is a beOtch!!!

I live in Massachusetts and I got pulled over like 5 years ago when i was 16 and just got my license. I had someone with me. They gave me a ticket for it and brought my friend home in the cruiser. I never got my license supsended though.

I live in MN too ! btw..not sure how recently but they implemented the same law here. If you get a ticket before 18 it gets suspended. I got a ticket a month after I got my license lol, and nothing happened but that was 5 years ago. That law was passed like a year later.

--Not sure, but I think they also implemented a law that if you get a ticket while you only have your permit, you can't get your license until 21. I remember hearing this..not sure if it got passed.--

I would imagine telling the police your prom date is your sister would promt the officer to check HER ID also, which will land you in a world of hurt for giving false info to the police.
