What could this be?

i got a fiew questions, the car feels like the parking break is on, it wont move forward if im at a light and let off the break, and it feels harder to get it moving. also i was taking a corner hard (offramp) and when i reached the apex i saw the p-break light flash on for a millisecond. any heads up on what that could be?

also, the car is either runnign strange, or this could be part of my suspension problem again. the car feels like someone is kicking the back of it as im going down the road. like consistantly kicking it. its more notiacable at speeds, but it does vary with speed, AND rpm, so i cant narrow it to transmission engine or suspension.


also, if i push her hard(round bout 5500+rpm), or am shifting at higher speeds (above 70) when it shifts into third or fourth, even if i let off the gas, she will float(rpm's) for atleast a second, and sometimes gain rpm's before it actually desides to shift.

also, again, is it better to have firmer shifts or light ones?


any help would be much obliged.

the first problem sounds like your caliper is locking up, this sometimes happens if you don't normally use the parking brake
 
it floats when you're comming down from higher gears? I think thats called Overdrive Floating... typical of older Ford AOD's ... it was happening to me before I replaced the tranny, but it's NOT WHY I replaced the tranny.
 
to answer your other question firmer shifts are more desirable, but that's just an opinion.
 
well first, i do use my p-break ALL the time, except i have stopped since its been feeling strange, just incase.

and the float happens when im accelerating, nto downshifting. i know about the od-float, but this is not that. because it also happens in 2-3

and i was speeking mechanicly about the shifts, though i do like the firmer shift personally too
 
I think that firmer shifts are more desireable and prolong transmission life. From my understanding it is because there is less slippage of the clutches if it engages quickly with a firm shift. With a smooth shift the clutches slip more and hence more wear. Any other opinions?
