What are my options???

Car started making a horrible ticking noise so i had it looked at. I was told it is the bottom end and could buy a crank kit but would be better off getting a new motor. Any opinions on this? It's a 04 3.0 w/ 123,xxx miles. Thanks. Was just laid off and paid off the car a few months back. Thank god for that

All this assumes that the diagnosis is correct. (Did you let it run out of oil or something like that?)

Options that I see:

1. Dump car and buy another car.
2. Replace engine with used engine from a junkyard car.
3. Rebuild your engine.
4. Replace engine with rebuilt engine.
5. Replace engine with new engine.

It leaks oil bad but I always kept it filled. Always adding some. Any price range for the 2nd and 3rd choices?

as little as $600-$700 if you happen to find a great deal on a motor and can swap it out, all the way up to thousands of dollars

Found some motors for about $700-$800 with 107k miles. I wish I could do the swap myself but it would be the first time doing something like this and only have a uncovered driveway to do it in. Waiting to hear back from the mechanic that looked at it to see if he can source one then the price to install it.
