What a week for the LS

So as you may know the midwest got hit pretty hard from the storm this week. So friday the LS gets snowed in and I couldnt get it out. Come back later with some people to help, Only to find 2 parking tickets. No big problem. Them Im driving it home and BAM hit a pot hole and bent the two left side rims. Then last night Im driving downtown and BAM hit antoehr one Bent the right two rims. So now im f'd and have to but 4 new rims. Im thinking of jsut going back to stock. This is geting to be a pain ive already gone through two cause of potholes. Well just had to vent.
 
if the potholes are a hazard to your driving sometimes you can make the dot pay for your rims. My mom cracked her front shirt on her bmw on a pothole and she filed a complant to the dot and they paid for a new skirt... just an idea to research

when i hit one beofre i called them and bitched. I even went back to the spot where it happend to take pics and while i was there 3 cars hit it and blew their tires. I gave them the info but modot refused it. they say they have to have a complaint then they have 3 days to fill the hole. Im gonan call them tomorrow and raise hell
 
check with a lawyer on that one, i think they ahve 3 days to fill the hole and they ahve to pay for damages i beleive, good luck i hope it works out
 
My friend hit a pothole in Southeast Missouri near Cape Girardeau and blew out a tire. He called modot and they said they needed time to research on whether the hole had been reported before and if they had addressed the matter within the three day period. It had been reported a week earlier and he got a new tire. Hope something like this works out for you.
 
Good lord those must be some big holes you all are hitting. Isn't there any way to avoid them? How deep are they?
 
That does suck, I took a turn too sharp in my SHO once and hit a DEEP pothole bending my rim, called the city to complain and they sent me a check for a new rim and filled in the pot hole!! SWEET!!

Cross the state line and come see Missouri. Our roads suck. I've been to Tennesse a few times and you guys have way better roads. Even Arkansas has better roads then Missouri once you get out of the North Eastern part.

I've been to MI a few times and couldn't believe the condition of the roads. Get place to go if you are trying to find a faint rattling noise in you car. You'll hear it constantly. I guess some things we just take for granted.
 
there was a study out a month or so ago that said missouri drives pay an extra 600 dollars a year on their vehicles due to the poor road conditions. As of may 2007 they are doing the biggest road resurfaceing ever in MO. its a 385 billion dollar job or something like that. as far as potholes heres pics of the first one that did my rims. Thats another cars tire that was flattened my it while i was taking pics. Also the salt and snow plows here are a huge reason theres soo many and theyre sooo big. Oh and keep in mind i live in the nicest part of st. louis and thats what my roads look like. times that by 20 and thats what the bad parts look like.

385 Billion? That's a little extreme. I don't think any state has that big of a budget. 385 MILLION maybe.

I agree though, MO roads are terrible.
 
yeah thats it. million. some crazy :q:q:q:q like that. all i know is our main way of getting around is being shut down for like 3 years
 
Yeah, I'm an hour south of Kansas City and Missouri roads are the worst I've ever seen. I've taken a road trip from KC to Arizona and Missouri's roads top the Sh!t list. I travel home to Tennessee around once a month and can't wait to cross the state line. There's always construction in TN but i think we have some of the nicest roads to drive on. Good luck man. itsnotmydaddys, no offense but those pothole pictures look good. In NJ that is what an expected, accepted road surface looks like. Except there are 2 or 3 every 100 feet. Then they try to cold patch them and they are still terrible. They sink again in a month or get ripped up again. This state sucks with their roads.

No offense I am surprised they damaged your rims they don't look that bad.

the conspiracy theory goes that the same guys in the road department get paid good money to plow in the winter and to fix pot holes in the summer. (usually OT night pay and/or hazard pay) so they fix the potholes as bad as they can in the summer so they can rip them up again with the plows in the winter.

Yeah it's more like 385 Million...... Smoother, Safer, Sooner.

I lived in MO for the past 20 years, graduated college from University of Missouri at Rolla. The roads in MO are not really that bad compared to what they could be... not perfect either. None are. I know in MO a lot of counties are responsible for road conditions of minor roads where MODOT focuses on the major routes. This does lead to some poorly paved roads since some counties have very limited income and/or lots of roads to maintain.

The roads here in northwest Arkansas are not great and are always crowded. Arkansas does not have the money it needs to build more roads (that are despirately needed) since the entire state has only 2.7 Million people. Bentonville (aka Walmart-ville) is part of the NWA community, which is growing by more than 1200 people per month! And yet still no road improvements. And this damn dry county is pissing me off.... but I digress.

a 35 series tire provides minimal rim protection with that short sidewall.

Might want to consider a cheap set of steel wheels with tires already mounted from tirerack.com or the like....just for these winter months. Put the low profile 20's back on in the spring.

ive been looking for some cheap wheels if someone could point me in the right direction i would greatly appreciate it. or some stock ones with tires
 
I have a set of 4 stock LSE Rims (17 inch) with the original tires on them All 4 straight and true...2 have some moderate curb rash. Tires probably have enough tread to make it through the winter, and maybe even next winter as well.

Im in Maryland..not sure what shipping would be. But I'd be willing to let them go for a fair price if you are interested.

Sounds like the roads down south are just as bad as up here in New England. You would be hard pressed to find any road up here (unless it has been recently paved) that doesn't have a bump, crack, pothole, frost heave, dead animal who knows what. I dom't know how people up here get away w/ lowered cars and big rims . . . it is only a matter of time before you tag something. I hope everything works out for you w/ the DOT.
