For anyone that has painted one themself, what grain did you wet sand with? I have 400 and 800, and so far it dont seem like 400 is doing anything.
What paint did you guys use? I may just go out and try a new brand and strip the paint off.

And before I get search Nazi'd I ran a few searchs like painting Mclaren grill, wet sanding Mclaren grille and any other combo you could think.:D

Check this out. Doesn't matter if it's a McLaren Grill, your hood, your neighbors Ferrari, or lawn furniture here is how you wet sand:

Remember....When color sanding/wet sanding you should see almost nothing coming off. The water should just turn the color of the paint, or in the case of clearcoat, you won't really see anything.

You sand it, see how it feels when it dries, then polish it... For the grill you can probably get away with hand polishing it and not using a buffer.

Obligatory Search Nazi Statement:
Don't just search LVC for solutions.....Google is your friend!

I must have gotten a nice new grill or something because i didnt sand it at all, its surface was ready to paint. I put down a primer coat, couple coats of black, a couple coats of clear because you know its gonna get beat to hell. I have put alot of mines on mine it it looks good. I used the regular Duplicolor matched paint. Ford Black (UA) isnt hard to match luckily.

Thanks for the advice, but I did want some from people that have done this exact project themself. You see the search nazi thing was a "joke". I just wanted a fellow person from the forums perspective on how they did this certain item.

Thanks again.

Im not just sanding to prep it, I am sanding it to smooth out the layers of paint so it looks good and dont turn out like garbage.
