Just curious about this because I looked it up on the Amsoil product lookup guide and it says 5w20. I used 5w30 in my 94'.

What are you guys using? I would like to run what is recommended.

Also, any consumption issues with 5w20?

Thanks in advance everyone,

Mike

I run 5w20 in all my mod motors... reasons are that the Motorcraft 5w20 synthetic blend is cheap at Oreily's.... It really doesn't matter though, it's kind of a personal preference thing imo.

The only thing i can say is NEVER EVER EVER EVER use Fram oil filters...

Any consumption with the 5w20?

I learned on my 94', only Motorcraft filters for me.:)

My Vic has some oil leak problems... they didn't get any worse with the 5w20.... but my car isn't a good judge of oil consumption... the Mark hasn't seen enough miles to know.

5W20 is probably best. But if your in a high temp area 30 weight is just as good. So being from Phoenix you may not notice a huge difference except on some cold night.

My oil cap saws 5W-20, but I have an 04 engine. I think there was a Ford TSB about switching to 5W-20 for the 4.6L but a few say it was for CAF.

the ford tsb says to use 5w20 in everything EXCEPT the 4.0 sohc (cuz its sh1t :D) ive been running it in my mark for 2 years (i think) and been runnin it in my explorer (5.0 ftw!!) since ive had it (10-07, and 45k, 171k now) and it hasn't used, or leaked a drop

Oil pans aren't very fun... but you have to do what you have to do....

My Vic is acting like a Harley right now...... it's puking oil from the oil cooler lines.

My 93 MK8 is leaking oil and I think it's coming from the Oil Pan and if not it's somewhere above it

It's probably the oil filter adapter gasket.. rather than the oil pan.
Does the car run?
I'd be willing to meet up with you and see if I can help you pinpoint the problem.

Mine says 5W-30W Pennzoil, and that is all I run plus a K&N oil filter. Bought them on Amazon at a great price. I did see where there is an oil filter comparison done by someone on the web and the FRAM has cardboard in it and it can come loose inside the filter and allow dirty oil to by pass the filter inside. Also I tried 20W-50W and my mileage went down like 3 or more MPG.

it says to use 5w20 on my 97 and all i use is that in either mobil1 or motorcraft with a motorcraft filter.

ever try the pep boys pro-line filter??? not sure how good it is, buts its a bit shorter and fits in and out ALOT easier....again not sure on the "quality" but it does fit nice
