Hey everyone, well I didn't want to fully join til I had the ls back on the road but figured I could use some help before then, quick insight I totaled out my vehicle in Dec 2010, n in February '11 I decided I wanted an ls and ended up looking at about 5 before I found one I was content with, its a 2000 ls v8 and had 118k miles on it and the guy just put all brand new coil packs in it and provided the receipt so I figured with the mileage how it rode and the receipts, coil packs and oil changes it should last me, well I drove it about 2500 miles and on the highway it over heated out of no where and shut off, long story short the place I took ended up telling me he tried a new starter and it wouldnt even try to roll over put a breaker bar on the front and couldn't turn it, so after the debate and loss I'm goin with a reman. 3.9 and Doin a Gen 2 front end swap, sport shocks upgrade, trac-lok for posi, CAI ,ball joints , and bushings since I did start hearing a clunk over bumps just before it died, any other suggestions that won't cost to much more but could do while its apart would be appreciated, now the main question????? I just received my Gen 2 headlights and found threads about wiring them for Gen1 BUT, I have a feeling they're HID, mainly because the molded numbers on the back of the lights have HID beside some of them, so if anyone could verify that and all the threads I've seen tell how to wire Gen 2 to Gen 1 and that Gen 2 can just swap out OEM HID and work but if they are HID is the Gen 1 capable of still doing the swap?

The odds are that they are not HIDs. The LS headlights all use the same outer housing, so it has part numbers on it for both halogen and HID. (The HIDs have different reflectors and a ballast on the assembly.) In any case, they wire the same. It's just that the keying on the plug is a little different. (Factory HIDs on gen II do add two relays, but they don't seem to be required.)

Ok thanks, that's what I was wondering, either way got a deal 105 for both shipped from Georgia and just refinished the lens, they look almost new now

So any other suggestions I could do while the engines out of the way, that I should look into

Yes, you should start a build thread and post progress pictures and info on your project. You have alot of work ahead of you! Good luck and welcome to LVC!

That sounds good keep an eye out for the thread prolly starting next month, waiting for my daughter to be done with school and then probably ordering the engine first couple Weeks of June, but thanks guys I'll keep everyone posted...

Hey everyone, Im back, sry for the loss of connection, last year ended up being one thing after another just after I started this thread, lost my mom the end of May unexpectedly, had to move in July, and got laid off in September. Soooo here I am, things are starting to look up again and getting back on track, ordering more parts and should be getting the engine in a couple weeks. Ill start the build thread probably a few days after I start everything, as long as I remember to take pics and not just jump in... Im horrible with pics... but glad to be back at it and looking forward to getting this going again

How much are you spending on all these repairs and conversions? It just seems like your doing quite a bit of work. Almost to the point where you probably could have gotten a newer LS instead of throwing all this money into a 2000

Well to look at it from my stand point I've already dropped almost 5k when I first got it and like it said I drove it for 2500 miles, so ended up being the most expensive yard ornament I've ever bought :p but, to look at even buying a newer one a used vehicle is a used vehicle so id have to spend probably another at least 5k and the same thing could happen, and even used engines are running 1200+ with high mileage I could find one with like 155k miles for like 1800 and only have a 30 day warranty as of right now I'm already at a loss I either get rid of it for nothing and lose 4k and chance the same thing if I wanted to stay with the ls or the route I'm going it will be almost 3k for a reman. engine that has a 3yr 100k mile warranty and basically have a new car again... Everything else really is just cosmetics more wants then needs I already have the bumper, cai, and gen. 2 headlights, and just ordered the ball joints and lsd, which if I remember reading the first generation rear end is more compatible to do the switch and even tho the gen 2 has more stock hp the 1st gen. is more tune-able, but most and biggest thing is I already have it... But that's all basically I h would have to drop at least 5k+ for a dependable car with decent mileage which like I said could do the same thing or spend 3k and have a warranty with a car that has low mileage and new engine... I am possibly opting out of the sport suspension tho to keep the comfort of the ride since it will be the family car again...
