Thanks for the in-put on my start up issue. I forgot to mention the car has just hit 60,000 miles. When this happened, the rpm's went to 3000 and the etc flashed and fail safe was flashing. The cel did not flash. After shutting it down immediatly and letting is sit for a minute and restarting it, everything was normal? Do you guys still think it could be #4 coil acting up as it runs fine otherwise. I've been reading lots of the older posts and it looks like #4 is a common problem and can cause numerous issues. Maybe I should just try and swap 1 and 4 and see. It's just weird and so far has only happened twice. Thanks again for the help. There seems to be way more knowledge in this site than at any stealerships!

Start with all new coils. If that one is from the factory and has 60k on it is done. I have a V6 also that I bought new and had the car in for coils 6 times till the warnt. exspired. AT 51k I had another OEM coil fail. Bought car to my mech. and he changed all plugs and coils to non OEM. Car runs fine now, no more CEL's. If you plan on keeping this car and dont want to keep bringing it in, change all the coils at the same time. Labor is usually 2 hours to remove and reinstall manifold so once they have it apart always change all 3. These are the ones that fail most often due to the heat. Good Luck

this was the case with my car

for the ten minutes it takes to do it, its well worth the try

mine only did it a couple of time in a little over a months time, then on one hot day it just started to do it more and more through out the day.

Sounds like it will just proressively get worse. Would you stick with oem coils? They seem to have a high failure rate, are there better ones available? I suppose it would be a big fight to get the dealer to warranty the issue unless it's actually doing this at the time of diagnostic. I do have the letter from lincoln saying that 07m07 does apply.

No, it doesn't have to be messing up when you take it in. They'll do a coil stress test, and it should pick up any marginal coils. The only catch is that if all of your coils pass the test, you'll have to pay the diagnostic fee (usually $100 to $200).

AFAIK, there are no coils better than the OEM coils.
