weird overheat

hey im new to this but i just bought an 01 ls v8 which was overheating..i changed the degas bottle i bled out the system.. the blows warm air only wen the button to recirculate is off, as soon as i put for it to recirculate it blows cold air, then wen i press the windshied defrost button the temp gauge starts going above normal.. now what can that be thanx if you can pm too :confused::confused:
 
Bleed the system again. It can take up to 3 times to get all the air out.
 
Now when I bleed it out again wen I put the heater on high do I have to put the defrost or the arrow pointing to the head because it doesn't specify...
 
I have bled mine a few times. Make sure that the engine fill by the intake manifold is full and bleed again.
 
If you overfill, that's what the overflow tank is for.. ;)

Just dont overfill that..

It's true that overfilling won't do any harm, but the LS has no overflow tank. If overfilled, it will vent to overage onto the ground.
 
I thought that the overflow was right hand corner? And you fill at the tree?

On the left side by the windshield is the degas bottle. It is a pressurized reservoir that serves two purposes. First, it helps remove any air bubble that form in the coolant, and second, it provides an expansion area for the coolant.

Overflow tanks are non pressurized reservoirs that connect to the radiator cap neck via a hose. When the cooling system vents coolant (via the pressure relief valve built into the radiator cap), it goes into the overflow tank. When the system cools off, some of the overflowed coolant in the overflow tank is sucked back into the cooling system via a check valve in the radiator cap.

Systems without pressurized expansion tanks typically use overflow tanks. Systems (like the LS) with pressurized expansion tanks usually do not use overflow tanks. Any overflow (due to overfilling) pours out onto the ground from a vent on the neck of the degas bottle cap.

I recall that overflow tanks only became popular sometime in the mid 70s. At the time, many kits were sold to add overflow tanks to cars. The smarter (and/or poorer) folks would just buy a new radiator cap with the check valve, some hose, and use an old antifreeze jug to make their own.

Now with many cars having pressurized degas/expansion tanks, overflow jugs seem to be going away.
 
Okay guys I did rebled the system twice I checked the engine fill b4 startingits blowing lukewarm air with the climate control set at 85 now the weird thing is wen I put the defrost on the idle shoots down but the good thing is the temp gauge stays in the middle now wen I hit the recirculation it the air starts to get cool again I opened the bleeder screw and it just shoots antifreeze so I'm guessing there is no more air in the system. Am I correct?
