Hey guys. My 2004 LS V8 just started making a weird noise from underneath the car. It sounds like it's coming from the center or passenger front wheel area. It's kind of like a groan of some sort. The best way I can describe it is like a manual transmission car shifting without the clutch. Like grinding gears. The car shifts just like normal. I'm not 100% sure of the source of the noise. I can mostly reproduce it when turning left while giving it gas. I thought maybe someone could chime in before having Ford diagnose. Thanks!

That may be the wheel bearing assembly going out on you.I had to replace one.Made a rough noise when turning the car at 30 mph or so.I just went to Auto-Zone or Advance auto and went ahead and replaced both sides.don-ohio

Thanks guy. I'm kinda hoping that's what it is. Considering the car has majority all original parts from 2004 haha.

my bet is your wheel well plastic is coming off and rubbing the tire.... (for $500)

lol. if its that simple, then the owner should be stripped of his LS for not getting out and just looking at the wheel...

clearly you dont understand how jeopardy works...

well without a video, you're only going to get guesses

I understand. I've attempted to take a video, sounds like crap and can't really hear the noise from it. Thanks guys, I appreciate it.

The wheel bearing assemblies are kinda weird in that when mine went bad, there was no play in the bearing. The only way I could tell it was bad was to remove the tire and THEN I felt the roughness when I rotated it. don-ohio

Same for me. It made a roaring noise that didn't change while turning and I couldn't trace the noise to a particular wheel. However, when I jacked it up and spun each wheel, it was obvious (not by sound, but by feel).

Hey guys, just wanted to give everyone a heads up. Had the car diagnosed and it appears to be the heat shield rattling around. Apparently the rust got to the bolts and just rotted it out making it flap with the vibrations. Also, the mechanic found the heat shield under the bottom of the car, above the exhaust is rotted by the bolts too. I've got a fun summer coming my way!!
