Ok, weird problem here...

Yesterday, during normal town driving, my radio/stereo in my 01 V8 LS just quit and stopped playing. When I put the car in park, it came back on only to turn itself off when it gets put back in drive. When the car sits for a half hour or so, the radio will play in drive only to turn off after a minute or so. I have no radio, clock, or anything in that area, because it's not getting any power. This is frustrating. Can anyone help me?!?!?

Hmm... Haven't heard of anything like this before!

The radio has an input from the starter switch to cause it to shut down while you are cranking the car. This same signal line also connects to the neutral-starter-lockout switch in the transmission. I would guess from the symptoms that you describe that your problem might be with this signal. I can't now, but later I can look up the wire color you need to look for if you have a volt meter. (You would be looking for the voltage to go above zero anytime the radio cuts out.)

When the car is in park, a fan noise seems to come on and everything using power in the car seems to surge, which seems like a different problem to me, but yet similar. The surging is something I could take care of if I take the time to look at it, but I don't think that's going to happen.
