While going around 35-40 mph, there is a noticeable vibration coming from the rear accompanied by the feeling that I am losing control of the car. Any ideas? Do these cars use U Joints and/or could it be the U joints?

Thanks

Wheel bearing. Tie-rod ends (but that would manifest itself at all speeds).

Just jack up the rear and search for loose parts. If you don't do your own work, have your mech do it. Can't hide loose stuff. This has been a big hospital year for me, otherwise I would be doing the work myself.

bad tire

you may have a bad tire, broken belts or separation in the tire structure.

The LS has one U-joint, and it's in the center of the drive shaft. The rear end uses CV joints. All that said, it sounds more like a tire problem to me. Easy to check. Move the back tires to the front and the front to the back. See if the problem moves too.

Didn't get to rotate the tires today, but I did notice a faint thump/creek in the same place that I was feeling the vibration. What's funny is that there was no vibration on the way home, just the faint thumps/creeks that seem to occur when going over bumps.
