Anyone have any experience with this stuff?

Recommendations?

Warnings?

I'm having severe grip issues with the michelins my previous owner had on the car. He was wayyy old and not hardly a driver. :D All-seasons just don't have the hookup im gonna need at the track, and I don't currently have the cash to shell out for some drag radials.

I'm not sure what you are asking? They use VHT at the track to make the pavement more sticky but all season tires won't help you much. Are you asking for launching techniques or which tires to get?

I've been reading articles about applying it directly to the tires.

It's kind of an old street racing trick, but the track I'm going to is 100% untreated, raw blacktop.

I'm thinking of buying some and spraying the tires down with it before the run in hopes of getting some semblance of traction.

Just didn't know if anyone's ever done this.

Also, do you guys typically launch TCS on or off? What's your technique?

I haven't heard of people applying VHT directly to the tires but if you can get ahold of some i'm sure it can't hurt. You launch traction control off and overdrive off. Don't stall the converter, launch off idle for best results. Set the PSI in the front tires to 40-45 and keep the pressure at 30 in the rear. Take out any extra weight you can from the car (spare and jack, etc), run with a 1/4 tank of premium gas.

If you don't want to shell out $$ for drag radials you're really not gonna like the price of VHT.

Yes it's best to drop pressure in the rears, but if you drop it too far you can make the tire lose grip in the center of the tread.

Well, the VHT is about 30ish bucks per gallon.. a gallon should last a few months.

It's just a temp until can afford drag radials, which should be toward the end of next month.

How much psi should I pull from the rears?

Or should I just test it and see by burning out and checking my marks?

With street tires I would keep the PSI at 30... no less than 25 for sure.

DONT do a burn out. That will only make your tires slicker.

what he was talking about was doing a burnout and checking the rubber laydown on the pavement. old trick to find the best pressure for the largest contact patch.

as for the drag strip. no burnout. just a real quick spin to clean them off out of the waterbox. i do no more than 1-2 seconds.

If your going to the track on all season radials, you should go around the water box. Some tracks even require you do this...

Of course you have to go around the waterbox, but you can back into it with the rear tires, even if you have street tires.

agreed. i should have stated this.

then again some tracks force you thru. they dont have the room to go around. my track barely has enough room.
