ok , i have recently had a new rack installed and shortly after 2 cracked wheels. so i have 2 new wheels in front and some nice bridgestone tires. after having the new rack installed it was fine but recently the effort required to turn the wheel has increased enough to where i can notice it. i noticed that the resevoir is overfilled and there is actually some spilling out as i have seen it on the cap and around the top. my car feels real sloppy up front and the bump steer is out of control, last night i noticed as i was backing out with the wheel completely to the left that the tires seemed to be catching up a lil bit ... like a jerk.... is this a tie rod issue maybe??? what do you guys think ... also unrelated but relevant to my sanity i hear a light ticking sound from the engine from time to time when the engine is cold. last week upon startup it ran very very very rough for about a minute and then returned to normal with never tripping a cel. i was thinking coil but no light showed up .. maybe a dirty MAF??? please help guys

Not sure about your steering issues, but I have the ticking from time to time. I've narrowed it down by ear to an area around two of the injectors. It goes away after the car has warmed up, but when it's cold I sometimes get a slightly rough idle. Maybe it's an injector? I'm not sure what to do about mine yet. I know that by nature, injectors make a little noise, but this ticking is definitely pronounced, and sounds nothing like the ticking the injectors make once the car has warmed up.

Has the car been re-aligned since all of this? My car had stupid bump steer that was remedied by an alignment.

start with an alignment if it wasn't done after the rack swap. they will check the tie rods (should have during rack replacement). just replace all inners and outters if any are worn. did you hit something to crack the wheels?

im assuming they did an alignment since it was under warranty and well it would just be stupid not to ...llollloolololol.. wow i hope they did.. They did however inform me after the rack install that they would not cover anymore of my suspension parts due to my lowering.. sweet.. i talked to the service manager and he said he had something to tell me tomorrow that he couldnt talk about on the phone,, so im assuming they are :q:q:q:qing me somehow... the wheels cracking i have no idea .. one cracked and i didnt know it because of the runflats.. then i bought a new wheel and then ordered another one because one of the wheels looked off in color .. good thing because i noticed a pull while driving and checked pressure....0. 2 cracks in that one... im woondering why this happened my self.. no probs with rear wheels ..im taking it in tomorrow but im not hopeful..im wondering why im having all these probs suddenly after they void the suspension warranty... i think maybe they saw a prob and dont want to fix who knowss.... HELP

I would just take the car back and tell them to fix it and tell them its still under warrenty whether they like it or not!! ha!

ya regardless what they say the rack at least has to be covered for a year i think.. maybe who knows ..its going in tomorrow... i hope its not a ball joint that could get expensive. also does anyone have some sort of literature of when certain components fail?? my car has 38k on it.. i may be able to make an arguement based on normal wear of the part??

ok so i pulled my jag wheels off and noticed that the left side tire was worn alot more on the outside edge than on the insde. it was pretty bad.. the tires came with the wheels and i had never used them until i ruined my blizzaks from driving hundreds of miles with no air... any way i swapped my other 18s on and my steering return is alot better and the binding feeling went away. so i think it was just a insanely worn tire prob although why i wonder was the outside edge worn so much.. with the camber being off a bit wouldnt the wear be on the other side?? very weird.. im not calling it fixed yet.. it seems to have some play when i had the car up like very very slight but its hard to tell on the side to side movement because our cars steering does not lock anyway thanks for the insight guys .. hopefully my prob with the slight tick will be solved in the am.......

I don't think it was camber causing your problem. If the rack was defective then god knows where the wheels were pointing, they were probably fighting each other causing uneven wear. The tire swap made this feel better because you didnt wear down the corner of the tire yet (more contact and more resistance as the tire wears).

There should be NO play. With the front jacked up (both wheels) the other side should move with the wheel you're turning (inspect this at each joint). I had a tire shop tell me i needed a new rack and all new tie rod ends. i laughed and said only do the tie rod ends (because i saw the play in them). The car has been fine, that was a couple years ago now. Hopefully they didn't screw you by unnecessary replacement or just telling you they replaced it.

You still need to check the alignment. Most places will do that part free to get you in, hoping to catch you needing one.

Not sure about the tick. How fast is it? Could simply be the AC compressor cycling on and off .

Yes, is the tick sound the classic lifter noise? What oil are you using? I haven't heard the noisy lifters in my car, but an old Chrysler minivan used to do it all the f-king time.
