Variable timing 01 ls?

I never claimed to be a full time Lincoln or car mechanic. I do it on the side and work on a lot of different types. I can be wrong so whoop de do. The machines i work on at work are CNC machines that cost up to a million $. I am not asking how to make a check pin board for a fanuc alpha spindle drive so i can check the BZI output signals with my scope. I figured asking people that work on them regularly would be faster and easier. Thank you LS4me for the pict. That does bring back memories of a nightmare job from hell.lol

Funny you say blinker fluid. My brow got the car from some lady and the blinkers were the only thing that worked. It even had a 2x4 holding up the passanger window. It came from Milwaukee. Lol

It's actually a diagram from Fordpartsgiant.com

They are a good one as well as Tasca Ford, also check out Rockauto.com

Rockauto also has discount codes too.

OK, so after all the bashing......
And, on behalf of the LvC community, I at least apologize. We're used to many mechanics making wild ass guesses, wasting lots of money, and generally causing further damage with these vehicles.
If you keep wrenching on this car, then do some searches on this site using google. There's tons of good threads on common problems and in-depth guides.

On the V8, it's incredibly easy to just drop the oil pan and take a look. It's usually worth replacing that gasket anyway.
I **think** the oil pickup is down in that area. Maybe it's loose and tapping on the pan? Too bad these engines don't have a real oil pressure sensor so you could diagnose oil supply problems.

I do a lot of rock auto. Once in a while i get a discount code. Only bad thing us i get taxed at rock. Because we are both in wisconsin. Didnt have much problems with returns either. I am not sure but my oil pan is different than the one pictured. No drain plug in the black cover and the casting the cover bolts on is not part of the oil pan in 1 piece. Will try to get a pict tonight.

The drain plug is on the rear, right side (left as you look at it from the front).

Loose dipstick rattling on the pan makes sense to me. I am having my bro get oil and going to pull the pan soon. I reserve the right to be wrong since my eyes cant see 30 miles away but i knew i should have got a pict. If i post a question about the starting problem am i going to get bashed? There is another 01 in town that asked me to fix it but i told him not till i figure out the one. Both have a code for the security. I looked through a lot of threads. And i dont feel good about being put down because i dont work on these cars all day long. Never fixed or took it apart. So im dumb feeling. I wasnt born knowing everything and i though asking someone who does first would be a good idea. Do i post it or not?

No, you won't get bashed. I don't think you've been bashed as it is.

Here's the two things that triggered my ridicule.
1. Thinking it has VVT when you had worked on the "whole" timing system. I still don't understand that one.
2. The whole oil pan thing.

If you stand back a bit, you have to admit that opens you up to what you got. Still, I apologize as it was a little harsh. You've taken it all very well, and I have no problem trying to continue to help you.

The answer to the timing thing is there was a strange component that i still dont know what it is next to the crank to the left next to the sprocket. That thing i dont know what it is goes into the oil pan. The oil pan on the car i am working on has a drain plug by the trans side sump. The car is far away and i cant double check the drain plug on the black pan and my brother cant get a picture of it because of a million reasons why he cant. So i am here looking for answers so i can come up with a plan. I looked at that cover a couple times wondering what the hell is in it making the noise that comes and goes. Again no car to get a look at here to verify for sure so i cant say any more about that

The VVT (2003-2006 only) components are inside the valve covers. There's nothing VVT related in the lower part of the engine.

Hang in there wolff.....these guys are the best help on the LS you can find....and joegr knows his stuff.

Yep. Oil pump it is if thats what is in the picture. Hope that's not whats making the noise. But noise seems closer to the pan. Cant beleive i could confuse that with a vt thing that i never even seen with my own eyes. Lol. Guess i should have taken it apart when i had the chance. Then i would have figured out what it was. Thats probably why i asked because i missed my window. Hopefully it doesnt open again because i like enjoying my weekends shooting my ak now.
