valve cover gasket question

The drivers side can be done without removing the manifold.
Although, this might be a good time to do both sides... VCG kit comes with both gaskets.
If you do decide to do both sides, and need help, let me know - I've done this a few times already
Not to mention, its fresh in my memory! I just finished (like 20 minutes ago) doing coils, VCGs, upper/lower manifold gaskets, etc, on an 02 V6 w/ manual trans

If you are just doing the one side, a flat head screwdriver, 8 & 10mm deep well sockets, extensions, ratchet, and a spark plug socket.
However, the wiring channel behind the engine (bolted onto the 2 stud bolts on the back of the valve cover) is easiest to remove if you remove the 2 nuts securing it from each valve cover. It is a pain to lift it off the studs with only one side removed.
And to reiterate what I said before - if you have an oil leak on the drivers side, imagine what the passenger side looks like?

Now that you mention that, I might need to take a deeper look at the passenger side. When the mechanics were replacing the starter, they did mention to me that there was an oil leak, but they needed to wash the engine to see where its coming from.

Sensor on drivers side is Engine Coolant Sensor. I have had my VC off 8 times. 1/4 in drive pass-thru sockets & rachet real handy. I got a Kobalt set that works nice. Pass thru is handy for the long studs. Remember were the long studs & short studs go on each VC. B careful of the vac lines on passsenger side rear. ERG gasket reusable if you break bolts loose then tap to loosen EGR valve. Drivers side fuel rail has to be loosened by removal of rail bracket bolts & raised about 1 in to get COP out. If you do intake gaskets, perfect time to change PVC valve! B real careful of radiator plastic tube top manifold small connector that "Y"s to both valve covers, it will break were hose connects in middle very easily & is real exspensive @ dealer. Cheaper on line. Lifting rear electrical plastic harneses off rear of VC is hard to get off & on!

This was the ninth time I've pulled the intake on the V6 in the past 3-4 years.
I'm getting quite good at it
THat vacuum line between the two valve covers is about 25$.
It broke on the car I just finished. Unfortunately, they don't seem to be very readily available in Ohio. The owner (forum member BuckeyeLS) said there was only 1 within 100 miles.
But (in my opinion) as far as dealer prices on LS parts go, $25 is pretty cheap.
