Hello all I bought my wife an 04 ls v6 about 18 months ago. Dealer replaced 1,2,3 coils and plugs about 8,00 miles ago under esp warranty. Warranty now gone same symptoms ordered a set of coils from alanis. Is there any gaskets I will need? How about the plugs keep readin about double platinum and stuff where does everyone get theres? By the way it has a whoping 65,000 miles has had new brakes, tranny reverse solenoid twice, rear sway bar bushings, and front wheel bearings. since I bought it 30,000 miles ago. I am starting to believe in Fix Or Repair Daily. She loves the performance and handling. By the way her car does not like 2 diffrent tire brands. One set directional and other non-directional, was all over the road till I bought 2 more and made a full set.. Thanks Jim

Coils should be under warnt. to 100k. Search forum for program #07M07 let dealer eat it. I have an 04 also and had car in on a regular basis till all coils were changed. Check to see if water inversion fix was installed (wiper motor bracket seal). I believe the problem is a combination of defective coils and water. Once I had these things fixed no more coil problems so far. You will ruin the cat by driving car with dead coil, I found that out the hard way.
Good Luck
P.S. Call Ford for copy of 07M07/07N09 866-436-7332

Did you read the letter?
This is for V8s only. There is no extra coverage for V6s.

Hi Joe
You are right. I called ford today to verify and program is for V8 only. My secondhand info was wrong. I wonder way they don't cover the V6 the coils?.
Sorry for the misinformation.

I don't know. It doesn't seem to make much sense. Maybe the number of coil issues on the V6 didn't exceed whatever magic threshold was required to trigger an extended coverage. I wonder if there were simply fewer V6s made than V8s?
Is it because the V8 program started with the leaking valve cover gaskets? That shouldn't be it, they [Ford] now admit that the coils have defects unrelated to being oil or water soaked.

Because the V6 didn't have the problem the V8 had. The V6 coils are exposed and not buried under a cover. Also, the gasket on the V6 didn't fail with the frequency of the V8. Yes, the coils living in the harsh environment they do, will eventually fail. Heat is a killer of electrical components. The gasket will also fail over time. Mine started leaking around 120K miles, IIRC.

Did you have to pay for any of those repairs? If not, who cares what needed to be replaced? Other than the brakes (wear item) and anti-sway bar bushings (actually, the bar needs to be replaced with the molded-on bushings) the other two (3) items are not common at those mileages. The bad bearings could be caused by lowering or aftermarket wheels. Most performance biased cars will react poorly to mismatched tread patterns and tire compounds. Different grip and all. My (daughters) 2000 V6 has over 167K miles on it and has been very reliable. It has had some serious $$$$ thrown at it lately, but what would you expect with that many miles and almost 9 years? I am so confident that I sold the car to my daughter.

Thanks for the replys. No The repairs were under her esp warranty. I tried to get them to replace all 6 coils 8,000 miles ago, but they reused. I offered to pay for the other three while I was in there, but no go. There is no aftermarket wheels or parts on my wifes car. I personally feel no vehicle should have this many problems in the first 100,00.00 miles with todays technology. Also passenger door keeps getting water in lower door pocket mysteriously. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks Jim

Hi Fireman
The water could be from a clogged or disconnected sunroof drain line or failed weatherstripping. Also check in bottom of trunk for water, I had to go back to the dealer a couple of times till they replaced the trunk seal. There is a TSB about the trunk problem. These cars have common problems and are usually fixed with no further problems. The coils are a "wear item" and need to be replaced. It's just such a P.I.A. that the intake manifold has to be removed to do it. If you have an extnd war. bring it back and let the dealer fix it. You need to keep on top of these cars. Good Luck

Redbed wre does the sunroof drain at/ I replaced the 3 coils and plugs dealer did not do. Took 10 minutes they did the passenger side.:D :D

Hi Fireman
Im no expert but I belive if you retract the sunroof ther are 4 drain holes. 2 go down between the door col and 2 go down thru the trunk behind the rug. I watched them try to fix my trunk leak thats the only way I know about these drain lines. You could try and do a search or post another question if you have no luck. Im sure your not the first person with this problem. I hope you can get this fixed so you can enjoy the car for the summer. Good Luck

I took a look this morning and I believe there are "weep holes" in the sunroof track above the pass. window. These could be clogged or drain line discont.
I was thinking you could tape up the sunroof seal and spray the car with a hose to check if leak goes away. This might at least point you in the right direction. When I bought my car in back in 05 for the trunk leak the dealer had a contractor called " The Leak Docotor" which I believe is a national franchise do the work. Hopefully it is an easy fix and you can find it yourself. Let me know how you make out.
