Boy that wasn't too bad of a job...

And guess what... I didn't have to drop my struts.

That nut under the master cylendar was a b!tch to get started but then it all went great.

Thanks everyone who gave input to the project.

If I'd have to do it again I bet I can get it done in less than 1 hr.

See, I didn't remember touching the strut bolts. Thanks, not for making me right, I just glad my memory is still decent. Glad it went smooth.

Cool Beans!

told you that one nut was a #$%!

Once it was lose I was able to use the bottem end as the ratchet and take the nut off. Made it much easier to work the wrench.

Also I was able to put the nut on the same way using the wheel well side.

oh then your arms must have been replaced once upon a time or did you break off the little arms?
Those bolts have little arms welded to them so they wont spin while tighten the nut.

There are several companies out there that make a universal ball joint removal/installation kit.....here is one kit.

Your better off buying the complete lower control arm from rockauto.com. For the cost, it's not worth having to press the joint out, and press the new one back in.

Part numbers are.....K80053, and K80055 for the left and right respectively. They are not listed as VIII units, but come off of a 4.6L thunderbird, but ARE THE SAME PART, just a different number.

54.79 per unit, is more than enough to save you the headache of pressing those sunsabitches out. (I've done it both ways, trust me)

With a press it wasn't a big deal, for that price I would always replace the entire part. I paid $35 for the ball joint, the whole assembly was alot more, even with connections, at the time I did mine.

Haha you said both ways...

Thanks for the info, new bushings and ball joint...too cheap.

Good to hear you got the uppers done.
It seems like the front end parts on these cars like to all self destruct at the same time. My next project is strut rod bushings....I have been putting it off for a whike now.

Strut rod bushings are easy actually. I have done the whole front end with poly bushings with the exception of the strut rod bushings for they are not made in poly at this time. You MAY need an extra set of hands if you do not have air tools to get the nuts off so you can break/hold the strut rod.

If I have the time after work this week, I will have air tools, and a lift, if not, it will probably be done in the driveway.
The ones I am replacing are the ones at the control arm side. How much do I have to disassemble to do this? Does the LCA HAVE to be disconnected at the subframe?
