This article only applies to vehicles equipped with Advance Trac vehicle stability control system. Vehicles equipped with Advance Trac can be identified by the letters ATS on the traction assist cancel switch located on the center console.

ISSUE

An intermittent "popping" noise coming from the brake pedal area under normal driving conditions, with possibly movement of the brake pedal, may occur on some vehicles. This may be due to a strategy concern within the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) of the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) and Advance Trac System.

ACTION

Replace the Anti-lock Brake/Advance Trac ECU with the revised ECU. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

Anyone know if this is for braking or non-braking conditions?? Our 00 LS8 is getting a lot of popping under slow speed (30 MPH and less) braking coming from the front end. That's the ONLY time it does it though.

your problem might be sensor related.

I would like to see the service proceedures. I don't see anyway you are supposed to test to see if the ECM is bad. They say to just replace it. Well, since it's surely out of warranty, I would think that might be an expensive "replace and see" type of deal.

Yeah, it's definitely out of warranty, and I have NO want what so ever to pay the stealership for a new computer just to "see" if it fixes it.

El Es, what sensor are you thinking?? I'm throwing no codes (other than that damn Evap System small leak detected, but that's another story), so I'm stopped in my tracks there.

It's not terrible, but it's audible and if you're concentrating you can even feel it in the pedal. I was almost thinking ball joint but it's ONLY at low speeds.

Yeah I have the evap thingshowing up but I think it is only in the mode 6 tests no DTCs are thrown. The wheel speed sensor. My right one went out and before it did I noticed the same popping when I would brake but it was not consistent and it occured at about the same fwd speeds you mentioned.
