Question: as the title of the thread would suggest. Is it possible to swap the trunk button in the cluster near the steering wheel? I tried searching but didn't locate anything similar to my situation.

Somehow, my fuel button popped off last summer, the parts inside like the spring and piston I couldn't even locate. I had to order a new assembly and got it yesterday. Now I want to put the new assembly in but don't want to lose the ability to lock my trunk with the key from inside. Any thoughts? I attempted to just pull it off but I don't want to break it. It seems designed not to just come off. Let me know if you have any ideas or have done this and what you have done to get this to work. Thanks!

secondary (hidden) switch for either comes to mind... or just getting in there and swapping them out (fix whatever breaks)

Probably, the plastic will break if you try to bend the tabs in enough to snap it back out. You might experiment on your existing trunk button, maybe even cut the plastic panel that it is in to free it. (sacrifice the old panel with broken fuel switch and sacrifice the new trunk button?) If it comes out in one piece but breaks the tabs, you might be able to glue it.

Good idea, I'm going to pull out the old one and see if there's anyway I can remove the trunk button without damaging it. If not, I might be able to just glue the black circular part holding the button to the tan interface... we'll see! If anyone has ever done this before, feel free to offer suggestions!

For all that are curious, I was able to gently bend the tabs out and replace the trunk button with the old one! Success!
