I just recently purchased a new car for a daily driver. This morning, I decided to take the LS for a change. It only sat in the driveway for two days, however, it has been pretty cold here in Ohio.

I started the LS and it seemed fine. After the RPMs went down to the normal idle range, they began to drop and drop, and the car bogged down and died. After several attempts, the car will idle very rough around 500rpms but once you put it in gear, it bogs down and dies.

2 days ago, the LS was running like a dream.

Have any ideas?

Thanks!

Or does the car just need to be warmed up for a while?

No. It's supposed to be able to start and go in the cold, and most of them do. It does sound like your IAC is probably stuck. You can tap it lightly with a hammer or a wrench and see if it unsticks. Even if it does, it should be replaced.

Thinking it needs to be replaced?

Well, inspected and cleaned at the least. It can be removed quite easily. Be careful with the gasket if you're re-using it. Some work with throttle body cleaner may be enough to keep you rolling for a while.

There was one day this year where it was -18.4F, a record low in our area. That day my ignition wouldn't catch, and trying to start the car, I drained the whole battery. Then I figured out that my LS has a block-heater and used it every day for the rest of the winter (I just got LS in August, and the block-heater outlet was hidden front-bottom of the bumper). Never had a problem again, and also started much more smoothly in the cold. Without the block heater, the engine was really rusty and making lots of noise for a good bit after starting.

 Found out the problem...

I have an aftermarket CAI and the hose from the intake tube to the IAC looked like it was connected, but actually wasn't.
