I just bought a 94 Mark VIII for $450 off of one of my friends. The car has 88,000 miles and the trans went out on him. It has dents under each 1/4 window and needs a paint job, but it runs like a dream. The interior is spotless and looks almost brand new. I have a trans out of a 95 Cougar that i had just had replaced 10,000 miles before i totaled it out. Would it be easier to drop the engine and trans then pull it apart, or drop the gas tank and pull the trans out the bottom? Was this a good deal for the car?

Sounds like a heLL of a deal.Well worth fixing.Congrats!!!!!! Im a new mark owner myself and I have found a couple things wrong with my car and was down about it,But everytime I go out in it it makes it all worth it.Im going to be buried in it :)
:W to :V

Not sure about what way to pull the trans,Im a noob when it comes to MarkVIII's but normally even when I do a unibody trans swap I drop it from the bottom

I have pulled the tranny several times on several different Mark VIII's without removing the engine, and I am now proficient at pulling/installing the motor in the car from the top (easier to pull the motor from the bottom.....so I have been told.....have not tried that YET!) But, basically what I am saying is that it is not as much work as you would think to pull the tranny from the bottom without removing the engine. It sounds like alot of work, but it really is not that bad. I have heard of someone (BlackIce) has removed the tranny without removing the gas tank, but I do not remember how he was able to do it. Maybe he can chime in, or you can inbox/email him and he can tell ya. But, even IF you do not do it that way it really is not that much work. I can have the tranny removed and reinstalled in a few (3 hours). That is if I have another tranny there to reinstall that is, and that includes pulling the gas tank and everything else.

If you need any help on it lemme know.....I am pretty proficient at it....LOL :D

i got the trans in and out in about 5 hours today. I just took it out the bottom. I called one shop and they said that you could drop the center section of the rearend and just slid the driveshaft back out of the way, but i just droped the tank. It looked easier to me. i havent got to drive it yet because i had to go back to school, so it will get its first trip out friday. If it makes it through the weekend its getting the JMOD next week.
