Transmission upgrade

I'm trying to upgrade my 1994 Mark VIII transmission to a 1998 Mark VIII transmission. I found a transmission but the parts guy said the Mark VIII had two different types of transmission... Does it matter which Mark VIII transmission I use? He said I need the numbers for the side of my old transmission but I have a 1994 so the numbers want be the same. Please Help

You want the 98 trans, the parts guy is gonna tell you "it's different".. because..well it "IS"..it's better.

You can use any 4r70w with the short tailshaft from 98+ can come from a Stang, Vic, Grand Marquis.... just needs to be 98+...

You can use a 98 trans...but its not plug and play, you need to repin or make some changes to the 98 trans.

I asked about a 1998 truck 4r70w transmission but I was told that I could only use the transmission out of the 98 mark viii because of the speedo drive gear. The Mark VIII is the only transmission with 7 teeth gear.

When you put the 98 trans in, you'll be swapping out the speed sensor from the 94 to the 98. You'll also need to swap out the electrical internals from the 94, over to the 98 which is stupid simple. Do the J-Mod while you're at it and you'll be in love with what you have.

I have done this already and there is nothing to it, especially doing it while the transmission is out. If you need the info on how to do it, let me know and I'll get it to you.

Another Question

I am going to install a 410 gear but why do I need to put in a Track-Loc diff in? My diff spins both tires... doesn't the mark viii come stock with LSD?
