Thanks for taking the time to read this I really appreciate it. I have a 2000 LS 3.9L. I have replaced all 8 ignition coils and a ton of various other problems. This one seems to be a killer though. The check engine light came on, then got an E in the drive computer (instead of D5, D4 ect). Now the rpm's don't downshift at high speeds. At 75 mph I am at 4000 rpms. The computer said that it was a solenoid problem, so I replaced that to the tune of $700. Though the problem was fixed, but first time a freeway all the lights came back on and rpms are through the roof. I talked to a tech at lincoln and he told me to replace the valve body kit, that "might" work. I don't want to pay $1000 for a maybe fix. Do you have any other ideas what this might be, or have you had the same problem.

Thank you so much for any and all advice.

valve body sounds about right. when it goes out i've noticed the car seems like it is slipping into neutral

sadly enough, that's probably the cheapest place to start.

How handy are you? From what I understand this is about a 5 on a scale of 10 in difficulty. Drop the tranny pan, change the valve body kit, replace pan gasket, install pan, add new fluid.

I am fairly handy and my friend owns a gargage so they handle most of the repairs at a very low cost. I read on another article about it just being a spring/ valve in the valve body, but who knows. Thanks, anything more please add it on.
