It seems tranny problems are fairly common on these cars, I'm currently looking to purchase an LS and have come across a few, however, one is an 2004 with 65,XXX or so miles and has had a tranny rebuilt, my worry is it giving out again? What are your opinions on tranny rebuilds? I know it depends on the workmanship primarily...but some feedback would be appreciated, since I'm new to the LS, and have experience with other cars I have owned. Thanks guys. (I did run the search btw, and didn't find what I was looking for )

I don't think that serious transmission problems are all that common on the LS. Problems with the solenoid assembly are more frequent than they should be, but many LSes never have one.

If the transmission was rebuilt by some chain shop (like Aamco - All Automatics Must Come Out), then I would stay away from it. They rebuild when there is no problem, and then there are nothing but problems there on out. That applies to all cars.

To add to what Joe has said, I would ask why they said it failed. If it was because they were beating on it, you can make the call there.

I appreciate the responses, as for reasoning, it was apparently rough when shifting from park to drive when correcting your parking, or in the manual mode, the shifts were harsh...apparently it has been smooth since then, just want to get some info before even going out to check it out, in the mean time im going to try and get the name of the shop too, research on them.

That should have only required the replacement of the solenoid assembly.
