I have a 02 LS V8 with 152k miles (bought with 149k) and under full throttle at about redline, the transmission stays at redline for about 3 to 4 seconds then shifts instead of shifting quickly. It's almost as if it gets stuck. I've had the transmission fluid and filter changed at a Ford/Lincoln dealer at 151k. It did this before the trans service. I tried searching throughout the forum but didn't find a thread with these symptoms. Has anyone else experienced this or know what the problem might be? Any help is appreciated.

I would imagine its the selanoid since that seems to cause everyone else's strange transmission problems. But I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in

Possibly the solenoid block, but also likely to be the servos. They wear and elongate, causing fluid to go around the servo instead of through it and creating the situation you describe.

Is it something that's going to break or should I not worry about it?

No, you should worry about it.

I'd suggest more abuse till it fixes itself... its kinda like children, beat them until they start acting right....

(G-rell or LVC does not condone or endorse the beating of children. Furthermore, the mentioned parties above are not liable for and damages or incarcerations as result of said actions taken on any minor you come across)

I'm getting mine done at an independent transmission shop right now. Labor is $350. I got all the parts through the dealer except for the servos. I got the servos here: http://www.fordservoboretransmissionfixsolution.com/customer-feedbackblog.html

I was going to do the job myself but I got frustrated. I was surprised at such a low quote for labor. He even showed me an open 5r55S and showed me what had to be done.

when done... PM me there info and total price, that might be something to hold onto for the future

I got my car back today. Shifts better than it ever has since I've had it (just about two years.) Even though it cost a good amount of money to fix overall ($1100). I feel as though my stress level is lower now that I don't have to cringe during the 2 - 3 gear change. The rest of the gear changes are noticeably much smoother as well. Transmission is more responsive for downshifts. No more delay in P-R, P-D, R-D, etc.

Overall I am very happy. Should have just bit the bullet and done this a long time ago.
