On my 2000 ls when I drive like my mother it shifts fine and firm. If I leave a light hard when the trans shifts from 1st to 2nd it only drops about 500 rpm, if it was a manual I would suspect the clutch of slipping. It doesnt do this in any other gear/shift point. I'm just trying to find out if this is normal or if a trans rebuild/replacement is in my near future. If it is a problem will a jag s-type 5r55N trans swap in?

The ratios are:

The 5R55N auto built before December 2001 has the following ratios:

1st: 3.25:1
2nd: 2.44:1
3rd: 1.55:1
4th: 1.00:1
5th: 0.75:1

5R55N's built after December 2001 have these ratios:

1st: 3.25:1
2nd: 2.31:1
3rd: 1.55:1
4th: 1.00:1
5th: 0.71:1

As close as 1st and 2nd are I wouldn't expect much of an rpm drop. FWIW, all my LSes (4) have had a short 1-2 shift.

sounds normal to me.
If you havent found out already, the LS's transmission isnt the best performer under hard situations. Lots of delays, hunting for the right gear, etc.
Pretty sturdy though.
