SO my mom has an 02' lincoln ls sport and was having her gall bladder taken out today so my dad drove to take her to the hospital and about 10 miles after driving on the interstate the car just felt like the transmission went out. He told me the light that came on that he thought was the transmission light but it was the traction control light. Had to have the car towed home and was wondering if this has happened to anyone? There was no signs of the transmission slipping or anything she said. It drove fine yesterday but today it just acted like the transmission was shot. Could it be anything other than transmission or happened to anyone else thanks. Has the V6 if that helps any...

Also just noticed in her car that from park if i put it into SST mode it only reads 2-5 wont go down to 1 is this normal for the first gen? In my 2nd gen it goes into 1

Yes. do a search to find out how to engage SST 1st.

The other issue could be the traction control (it does cut engine power) or (I guess) the diff(erential) could be blown. That would be preceded by a noticeable howling from the rear end. IMHO, you'll need the dealer to diagnose the problem correctly. Transmissions don't quit overnight.

Taking to dealer in the morning and see if it reads any codes. Hope its not a transmission.
