Well, I took my car to the tranny guy and he said he was going to update it to the 5 clutch pack instead of the 4, and he is putting a shift kit type deal in. The reason im doing this is because in 3rd gear the clutch pack slips and causes the car to feel like its in neutral. The thread that I posted about the "3rd gear buzz" was the clutch pack slipping.

I was up at S :zgreenbou ears last friday and didn't see you....... Not to many rides up there.

Thats cool...I was only there until 6, it was kind of cool out. I drove mine to work tonight but it's about ready to be parked for the year.

While my trans is out should I put a new TC in? I dont want something too extreme. Im not sure i actually understand what a Tq converter does. can some1 explain?

If your tranny man tries to put your old tc back in the car after the tranny has failed, look for another tranny tech!!!! You NEVER, EVER put an old tc back in after a trans failure. Some will try and flush it...but even that's not a guarantee. You will get debris from the failed component in the tc that is almost impossible to get out without cutting the converter open. Guess where that debris ends up?? Yep! And you get to overhaul your tranny again!

It wasnt exactly a tranny failure. But if i was just driving normal would it have to be at 3200RPM to move, would it act as if it were in neutral under 3200?

If the clutch pack is slipping, that is transmission failure. The friction compound on the clutches gets into your oil and is spread all over the transmission...and gets lodged in your converter. That's why you always install a new converter...and many companies won't even sell you a tranny without the converter. They definitely won't warranty it without a new one.

I have a rear end gear related question. Is the speedo gear accessible while the trans is in the car?

Guess what guys!!! I found out that my trans had been rebuilt once before. The guy that is doing it now told me that the place that did it before did a sh!tty job on it. The 3rd gear bands are completely wasted too. I should get it back by this friday.

make sure u give it a real nice good break in time, i went through 2 in 20k and i didnt get any break in notice beforehand...so i definatly say, make sure ur nice and easy on it, let the clutches find their spot. and then...GIVE IT HELL!

I dont know about giving it hell. But how much would a slightly higher stall Tq Converter cost?

My Edge brand Street Edge 3000 stall converter cost a little over $500 when I bought it. It launches nice when I mash the gas, but the hit I took on my city gas mileage was more than I expected.

A torque converter from a Mercury Maruader will be about $250. Its stall speed is a little over 2500. Like the Street Edge, they have furnace brazed fins, but they also have a larger lock-up clutch. I'm replacing my Street Edge torque converter with one of these.

I got it back today with a 2000 stall and trans-go shift kit, feels like a brand new car. Im happy!
