hey guys, new to LS been a honda guy for 10 years and now got my lincoln. the trans used to make some funny noise lightly in first but almost sounded like it wasnt engaging in reverse when i backed up. lastnight it started making a squeel/metal to metal sound, on our way back from our friends haloween party on the QEW my clutch pedal jumped out from under my feet straight to the floor. freaked me out but from encountering almost every problem you can imagine with a car i knew how to drive home with no clutch from oakville to port credit. removed the cover under the dash to see if it were something with the pedal but it is just loose and sits to the floor board.

anyone encounter an issues like this before? any feedback is awesome but im currently on a search for a 5speed tranny for my 01 lincoln ls incase i need to replace it. taking to shop tomorrow to see whats up if i cant find anything online.

much appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Can't help with the specific vehicle but that is more a clutch issue then a trans. Possibly a broken release fork or linkage.

ya, i was told it sounded like the release bearing was going, im guessing that could be my main issue? probably get it pulled and slap a new clutch kit in and bearing? would the pedal shoot to the floor like that tho? thats my only concern. i do hope its not the transmission.

i was just looking at some other stories and it never seems to be trans thats the issue, looks like alot of clucth and flywheel problems.

thanks TMT. still looking to get her fixed. i love this car.

royalT brings up an interesting point. I had forgotten that the manual trans LS uses hydraulic actuation of the clutch.

All I can say is my clutch felt terrible. Felt almost as if it was not there. I did a full bleed, ( brakes and slave cylinder ) and it actually works alot better.

Only cost me 20$ for brake fluid ( dot 3 ) and a bleeder kit... alot cheaper than a clutch or a slave cylinder!!

The job will take you 1.5 - 3.5 Hours, dependent on your jacks, and how much space you have to work with under the car.

Tools i suggest..

7/16 wrench
impact gun
extra hose, 5/32 in diameter

Just give a full bleed a shot. Have someone puch the pedal and watch the fluid / bubbles that comes out of the slave. Alot of air in my sytem.

Bleed brakes, i think far left, then right, then front right and front left, then the slave.

Before you bleed your system make sure you didn't burst a line and have brake fluid leaking. If do bleed your brake/clutch fluid make sure you don't run low/out of brake fluid or you'll have to start at square one again. It does sound like your slave cylinder/throwout bearing could be bad.
