I had my trans fluid flushed and filled this past week. Prior to this I was having an extremely rough downshift from 2nd to 1st. Most noticeable in stop and go traffic. It got so bad I could feel the driveshaft/rear bang hard when it occured. Tried disc. the bat. but it only temporarlly fixed problem. Shift problem seems to have gone away with this flush.
I have had the fluid changed every 2 years since new, and had the dealer perform the TSB for rough shifting(add friction modifier) because of rough shift from park to reverse. This problem eventually returned after car was out of warrantee. Had fluid changed and this problem vanished, very smooth shift from park to reverse ever since.
The mech showed me the old fluid as he emptied down the sump drain both times. It was bright red but contained a black sand like grit. I wonder if this material is what causes problems. I would think mercon v with 25k on it would not lose its lubricity and I believe the fluid level was good. I feel like I stole one if a $100 flush fixed these problems. Good Luck
