Tranny Slipping?

01 Sport, V8, 128K miles

this past week, on long trip, it felt like the transmission was slipping. It happened about 4 times over 350 miles. traveling at 70-75 mph, get a loud "clunk" like the tranny tried to do a quick 5-4-5 shift, or the trans disengaged. Has anyone had something similar? Is it the tranny or something else?
 
That's your overdrive servo going bad. The case of the transmission has actually worn out.

It's a piss-poor design that Ford still produces. :mad:

The fix is actually pretty simple:

Get the corrected servos from http://www.fordservoboretransmissionfixsolution.com/

Add a bit more of a chamfer:

Then (carefully yet forcefully) shove the caps back on:

You may want to consider doing your solenoid and 3-4 spring at the same time.
