My 1984' LSC has to have a tranny rebuild while my 1990 need to have a five speed swap. The 84' can not move but the 90' moves but gets hot. I have asked my guy who works on my car when needed and he said he could do my 84' rebuild for $999. He did not include his 25% increase to make some money on this. Instead he said he would charge me the same. What he pays. I pay! So, im thinking 1k isn't bad and includes my 2400 stall. But do I really want a 2400. I want to know where my rpm s will be at 70mph.

I know some of you have installed stalls. Most I have seen went with 3k stall. In which I want this to be a highway car but have more down low at a stop. Bcoz we all know 84' only have 140hp. But im happy with that. Its a fine line. Im looking for maximum get up. But more on the end of highway driving!

Also, instead of messing with my 84' I could be shifting gears in my 90'. Which I have heard no bad cooments for anyone who has had one installed. But its going to cost me alot more. I could get it rebuilt for the same price maybe even cheaper. But the install would be up there. . . So, instead of just getting the five spead of my dreams. Here is what im thinking!

1984
Tranny Rebuild ~ 799
2400 Stall
Labor ~ 3.5hrs
Tranny Cooler ~ $50

1990
180 stat ~ $$$
New Radiator Hoses ~ Bought
Brake Booster ~ $$$
190 Fuel Pump ~ $90

Two vehicals running good. Both cars are happy. Although I still need to order a cowl hood and fiberglass fenders. Bcoz my old ones off my 90' will be going to my 84'. Hood and drivers fender. Now I need a front header. Thats what my summer plans look like. Any comments would be great. The tranny rebuild should start in the next week or two. . .

$1000 isn't that great of a deal. I have a friend from college that was a mechanic. He knows a guy that said he could rebuild my transmission for me, any way I wanted. For a basic rebuild he was charging $450, and for an upgraded rebuild he wanted $550. I'd shop around a bit more and see if you can find a better deal.

Damn, $550!
Yea, that's about the extent of what I said! The guy is in VA somewhere. I was at dinner with my friend, and we were tlaking aobut my car. It came about that he knew this really good tranny guy that did work on the side. He called him, right then and there, and asked him. I couldn't believe he would rebuild an AOD for $450! Let alone upgrade it for $100 more.

Thats crazy. I think you just got one hell of a deal. Did you also get a warranty?
No, no warranty. It was some "shade-tree" mechanic. I need to catch up with my buddy and get this guys phone number so I can get him to do the work for me!
