Just Purchased a 2000 Lincoln LS V6, it has 103,000 miles on it. About a week after I bought the car, I started seeing an E on my tach and my car did not want to shift out of third gear. When I start in D4, and then shift to D5, it runs just fine. The research that I have done I've seen a solenoid pack could be the issue or a bad valve spring could also be the culprit. I am sorry if there is a thread similar to this already but I want to know as much as I can about this issue. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

Bad valve body spring... Usually for 4th-5th shift problems.

PCM reflash... Maybe.

Solenoid pack... Most likely.

At 103,000 it probably needs a fluid and filter change too.

Of course there could be bigger problems too. Have you had the computer scaned for codes? If you are seeing an "E" message, the computer probably has a code stored. Might be worth the $100 or so, to take it to the dealer to find out.
