Hello all, I have a 2000 LS v6 manufactured in '99. I'm getting tired of the classic "wood" trim and I'm starting to like the look of the carbon fiber/grey metallic interior of the newer gen LS's. (I'm 19 so go figure :3) I'm willing to do a fair trade for my wood trims for the carbon fiber ones. Thanks.

There are no factory carbon fiber interior pieces. You would be better served buying some carbon fiber vinyl and covering your existing pieces.

Try a gun shop. I have 2 in my town that does a wrap for gun parts in various designs to include carbon fiber. I had some motorcycle parts done a few years back and it was fairly cheap and the quality was awsome. Just a thought..

the 2nd gen "carbon fiber" pieces, are actually aluminum, with a 3D fish scale stamped into them. they look great in pictures, and good from far, but looks kinda gay up close.

i really wish they didnt have the 3d texture, i've been thinking about sanding them down and giving them a brushed look, but i'm concerned about how the texture will handle it and if its thick enough to just knock the texture down.

as far as carbon wrap, check all your local car parts stores. back when i had my Mark, i had to wrap the wood because it was cracked in a couple of spots and i found a nice film that actually looked like CF, and shrunk a little bit with some heat so it was super easy to wrap anything.

also even if you did want the fish scale, a trade would be out of the question as some of the pieces are different shaped from one gen to another, all the pieces on the dash may work, as far as i remember, they all look alike, but the shape of all the door pieces are way different.

I wrapped my parts in carbon fiber, I hated it, Looked good at first then I grew to hate it. I have since wrapped in leather, I love the look. I know most here don't, but I could give a **** less what people think. Just look at all your options and pick the one you like. Make sure you avoid the auto parts store vinyl, it will bubble when it gets hot in the summer, and generally looks like ****.

I bought leather and then wrapped it, using spray glue, It is a very very tedious process. Any fabric shop around will have similar products, make sure you buy enough to do it all, as they often don't keep the same material, also one batch of leather to the next even in the same color may differ some.

I think the main reason people don't like it is the colors don't work well together. The other colors are muted, but the leather is a bright color so it doesn't fit well. I don't like it, but think it would have looked a thousand times better had the leather matched the darker color on the dash. More than two different colors begins to look kind of garish.

Since you say you've done more, how about a more recent pic?

The leather looks like it needs to be pulled a bit tighter and the colors don't match with anything.

Also it needs to be a different colored leather. A dark gray and the seats wrapped in the same color would look great. Also that interior color isn't very appealing in the first place. The gen I colors look washed out compared to gen 2.

the colors will match the seats when done, they will have a darker outer with the lighter being in the inner sections to tie it together. Hopefully by summer that will all be done.

Like I said, most people don't dig it, I love it, unfortunately I am having a tough time getting a good picture that really captures the richness and actual color, It always looks orange in pictures, but isn't really orange at all. I will see if I can use a better camera to try and capture the real life look so to speak.

but the three color argument doesn't make sense as the color I covered was just as different as this is.

to each their own, I just hope the OP doesn't do the Carbon Fiber with cheap auto zone stuff like I tried, its very ugly, not like done poorly, just the pattern they put on it looks bad. The better 3m stuff should prove to look much better if he goes that route

Yes, but no. You covered a different material, ie the woodgrain, which acted as a break between the two different colors. The woodgrain was trim, but now that it's covered with a similar looking material it is no longer trim but part of the dash, if you can see where I'm going with that. Still, looking forward to seeing the updated pics with a better camera.

Yeah, I understand, and in no way trying to start a webnetz argument. I will try to get some better pics sometime this weekend or something like that

Get M4rk to show you his thread on his carbon wrap project, turned out nice if I remember correctly.
