It is pretty common in bracket racing that your first pass is never the quickest. Most will say it is do to the heavy rear diff fluid and the trans not being warmed up maker the second pass faster. Also depending on the outside temp after 40 or so minutes your coolant will be a lot cooler but the trans is still holding lots of heat.

Just hold the brake and keep the rpms where ever you feel comfortable. somewhere between 1000-1500 would be good, pre-stage, stage and when you see the third yellow come on release the brake and punch it. Once you get to know your cars reaction time you can leave either a little earlier or a little later. Try to just barley light up the the lower stage bulbs as apposed to rolling to deep. Getting the tree down is a matter of seat time and practice. My 16 yo son routinely cuts 005-030 lights and this is his first season racing my 90 mustang.
I always warm up the supercharged 93 before I run it. In the pits at the track like you said. It might run faster cold as my other 1st gen cars did, I just don't want to try it. But the supercharged 93 runs its worst when it is in between cold and warmed up ?? Not sure why. So you say they spray the outside of the transmission with water to cool it in between rounds ?? I've thought about putting dry ice on the intake ??

We used to get out to the rock but have not been over there now for a few years. We mainly go to BIR for the bracket races. Mostly because we just know BIR better and are on this end of town. We hoped to get out to Grove Creek as the mustang would be an great 1/8th mile car. We used to run a Super Comp dragster and went all over the midwest but we sold that and now doing the low budget fun racing with our two teenage sons. We will be at the next bracket race at BIR in two weeks, it is the last one for the season.
What MPH you see with the 5.0?

Feel like we've hi-jacked the OP thread here, sorry.
104-106mph, 3.73 Stange spool with 33 spline axles on 26" hoosier slick. The motor is a 2000 explorer bottom end, gt40p stock heads, trick flow valve springs, anderson ford motorsports N41 cam, 30lb injectors, trick flow intake, 90mm lighting MAF, dyno tuned by hi-tech to 275 rwhp, 285 torque, weights about 2700 with the driver and runs between 12.33-12.70 depending on the DA. The reans is a c4 with a reversa manual valve body, 8" full race convertor with a 3400 stall, it has a trans break but we do not use it the car launches best from 2000 rpm. We run a MSD 3 step controlling dual line locks and an adjustable rev limiter for the starting line plus a burn out rev limiter. The rear susp is Baseline Pro Launch 2 with all solid mounts and a anti-roll bar. Strange 10 way adjustables on 4 corners.
I think that about cover the car

One of my brothers wrenches runs div 5 Gary Wamboldt.
Won at BIR nat's 2000, runner up 99.
Tough class to run lots of good racers.
Grove Creek is a fun track, ran a JR there with my son.
