Top strut bolt

found out the top nut on the strut is leaking, by the plastic bushing. Tried to tighten it but it wasnt going anywhere. If i turn it to much will i break something inside, i was being sort of gentel as to not break anything. Can i really torque the bastard?

If it doesnt work i will just soak it in super glue and hardning compound of some sort.

you cant fix it, only replace the strut, the bushing is rubber not plastic and once they split its all over. thats the biggest cause for a leaky strut more so then the air bladder itself leaking. you can tighten the top nut all you want it wont seal the leak, that top bushing is about 3/4 inch thick and basically acts as a plug to keep the air in the bag, when it splits it splits all the way through and thats it, replace it, its your only option.

I think im just going to rig it. I just boought them used and cant afford (dont want to) new struts. They are arnott and only 2 years old and the bags are in great shape...

I'll goop up the top part with a adhesive filler, super glue or a compound of some sort and buy a metal "cup" that will fit around the nut and bushing so they would no longer be visible. Then i'll use jb weld to attach the cup to the the top portion of the strut. That should work.

good luck with that lol, just picture your head being a balloon and your mouth is the seal, you glue your mouth with compounds and jb weld and glues and put a cover over it, then fill your head with about 100 psi of air and then sit 2500lbs on your head and see what happens lmao. i'm telling you the glues and crap arent going to fix it, but try it, if anything you'll be able to say you tried. and you said they are arnott, thats the first problem. if i were you, i'd go cheapest way possible and just convert to coils, because after you try to " rig it " the next thing you'll be replacing is a burnt up air compressor.

Are the seals replaceable? Eddie has to have a source to rebuild these things and so does Suncore and Arnott. The seals have to be out there.

But even if not, could good seals be taken from struts with leaky bags? I am sure if the bags are leaking the top seal may not be in the best shape. Just wondering if its a possibility.

i dont know about the metal cased struts from first gens, but if you could find a seal then you could change the seal in a second gen strut, those come apart rather easy.

lmao, im gunna try anything at this point.

I went through the whole coil or air setup for 4 months before i came across what i beleived were good used bags. I opted to stick with the air for the adjustbility and the fact that im trying very hard to get this thing back to the way it is supposed to be. I've worked all winter and spring trying to get it on the road in dam near mint shape. Of course with all my little touches aswell.:gr_devil:
