Well I took the mark to Milan Dragway tonight. Got 3 runs in. This was my first ever time at the strip so I didnt really know what I was doing.
Rear tires were at 27psi, was fairly cold out 50s I think. Also had a full tank of gas.
First run (after sleeping at the light) I launched from idle (500-600rpm).
2nd run launched from 1500rpm, but it wasnt any faster; first 2 runs were back to back so didnt give the car time too cool.
3rd run was a mess, revved to 2000rpm and tripped the light but didnt make the connection I started the clock as well.

--------------1st run ______ 2nd run
Reaction ---- .828 ------- .1009
60ft --------- 2.4882 ----- 2.5490
1/8 ET ------ 10.0732 ----- 10.1801
1/8 MPH ---- 72.94 ------ 72.69
1/4 ET ------ 15.3552 ---- 15.4732
1/4 MPH ---- 94.14 ------- 93.94

Was quite a rush, now Im itching to go back, and for some mods. Car is basically stock except for cat-back exhaust (courtesy of LMS:cool: )
So what can I do to improve my times, because Im pretty sure the car is capable of better times.

Launch from idle.
Turn off the O/D and traction control.
Get rid of needless weight.
Ice the intake between runs.

Just realized I forgot to turn OD and trac control off (it couldnt stop the burnouts anyway)

Do they make much of a difference? Is it better to run in D or L?

no need for a burnout on street tires, it is believed that it causes you to loose traction, just avoid the water box at all costs. OD and trac control need to be off, you dont want to be shifting into OD at the end of the track, dont worry we have rev limiters. when i hit 15.169 i bounced off the limiter in third as i crossed the line. and i just run it in drive, it seems to shift at red line anyways at WOT. oh and i launch at 2k but you gotta roll the throttle or you can spin damn "one tire fire"
for the record-98 markviii LSC, performance mods uhhhhhhhhhh........i removed the air silencer, does that count? :D

Traction-lock will help those 60 foot times. The first 60 feet is the most critical in launching these cars.

1.9 second launch

are talking about the "posi unit" in the diff or the traction control sys? my traction control system, kills my times, as soon as i spin it pulls the timing out and bogs the hell out of the car. this could also be that (i believe) the gen 1's have trac-assist, where the gen 2's have trac-control that is supposed to be more aggressive at reducing wheel spin, in the snow there have been times where i couldn't go over 20, man that was a long drive

The differential.

The Gen2 traction-control system I believe is similar to the traction control in my '02 Town Car. One snowy day I needed to move the Town Car in the driveway. It was a futile exercise, whenever it started to spin it would cut power and go nowhere. I finally had to back out of the driveway completely, turn off the TC and then build momentum and power-slide into position the 'old-school' way. haha

sounds the same to me

and i got a 3.73 with a trac-loc at work in a bird pumpkin (cast iron i know but only 11 more lbs)

i didnt know there were this many downriver marks, we should hit up milan some time, im supposed to be going next saturday, and then on one of the next couple wednesdays

anyways congrats redhotmark, good to see u enjoyed it, when i went in july i ran about the same but with better 60fts, damn 90* weather, what seemed to work best for me was turning o/d and tc off, avoiding the water box, heck i didnt even do a little spin to clean them off, and preloading the car a little by brake torquing, but not enough to let it spin, just enough to feel everything grab and want to start movin, dont worry bout the lights, ull get better the more u go, gl with makin it faster

I would love to get a few marks to go to milan, i dont think there are many t&t left this year.

i think theres something like two wednesdays and a couple saturdays, sorry for thread jack, lol done now

cool, they have test and tune from 12pm-6pm, i work untill 3 but will be leaving early, plannin on getting there at 3, hopefully there wont be that many ppl there there

Well I wont be goin saturday either, Ill be going on friday (tomorrow), showing up around 4:30-5ish.
Saturday we play Ohio State in rugby, then theres the world cup final at 3pm.

Good luck on Saturday, kill 'em.

And for the track tomorrow, remember, turn overdrive off, traction control off, put it in D. Try to roll into the throttle, which is hard to do cuz you just wanna go, but it will help keep you from spinning, even if you're launching from 1500rpm and its spun before, roll in. If you notice the tires spin a lot, try dropping your tire pressure. If 27psi isn't low enough, drop them some more. While you're waiting in the staging lanes, if your not moving, keep your hood popped, if you are moving then put your defrosters on full blast and as hot as they can go, just remember to turn them off when you run. Heck if your hot lapping a lot, put on the blowers as soon as you finish your run, just to get that heat out of there. Have fun and good luck. Bring back some lower times.
