Took it to the Track! for the 1st time ever!

And man oh man did I have fun. Slooooow, but it was a ton of fun.

The fastest time was 15.7somethingiforgot. @ 90.??? mph.

I have a stock Mark with an intake and exhaust. Thats it.

1/4 tank of Low grade gas, trunk full of stuff. Cheapo tires, (although never spun off the line) :D

Anyways, it was a real blast, I manually shifted about 5700 and it shifted about 6300 once it caught and that is when it ran its best. I tried that same setup two times and it worked and shifted firmest then.

I have a video! With no sound however. :-/

There were some stock new Camaros out there running mid-low 13's! :eek: impressive.

Next time, Let the car shift itself with OD/TC off and Dont flash the converter.

My 97 went 14.9 its first time to the track, before any mods with this method and the exception of kuhmo tires.

Glad to see you finally took it down. If i havent been setting up this aquarium I've just picked up as a little hobby I would have went last week, besides it was really windy the one day i got off work early, and i dont bother with that.

I'll be keeping my on eye on the DA, wind, and temp and be hitting up the track sometime soon. It'd be nice if i could find some mustang wheels with drag radials on them for the trip also.

I've heard that expression a few times (flash the converter), but have no idea what that means. Somebody wanna clarify?

Hold the brake to the floor and at the same time go WOT and let off the brake.
The key is to do this motion all very quickly before the converter has a chance to pre-load. You want to time it so that you have taken your foot off of the brake by the end of the last amber so you are going on the green. NOT to be confused with a brake stall. The converter has already pre-loaded with that method.
 
I never knew what flashing it meant either. Ill have to try that next time im at the track, assuming it dosent blow the tires off
 
I'm glad you had fun at the track! Although I've been told drag racing has nothing on road course racing I do enjoy it every time I go too.

Kirk, let me get this straight because whenever I race an automatic at the track I "two foot" it to preload the driveline. From what you just explained I've been doing it wrong the whole time... :D

So I stage the car and hold the brake until I'm ready to launch then I let off the brake and mash the accelerator at the same time?

I'm not saying you are doing it wrong but I netted sub 2.0 60' times by flashing the converter. You will floor it momentarily while the brake is applied and let off the brake. So the car is actually WOT for a split second and releasing the brake should somewhat "catapault" the car out of the hole. Keep in mind this is all a very quick action kind of like powershifting a clutch car. It is a difficult method to perfect but I was able to get a best of 1.94 out of the hole and my suspension was SHOT. I'm excited to see how it launches this year because that's all getting re-done. Not to mention, there may be some tip into throttle issues in my tune. I had a lot of disadvantages working against me suspension/tuning wise, so getting some 1.9 60's was very gratifying. I should see high 1.8s this year I hope.

To be noted: If you have a stock converter, this may not be the best method for launching. You might want to try launching right off of idle. No flashing, no brake stall, just floor it at the end of the last amber on the tree.
 
With the high stall converter(s), my best 60 foot times were from brake stalling the converter as much as the brakes would hold. With a stock converter, launching off idle was the best and most consistent.
 
Nice! All in all, it is fun winning or losing, and hearing ,seeing all of them badass cars, trucks, and bikes. Hmm maybe your aftermarket rims slowed you down a tad. Post a time slip? That a Crown Vic you were racing?
 
I sat there at the light and i only had my foot on the brake with my foot ready to slam the gas. I read on here quite a few places thats the best way to do it with the stock Mark.

I have the slips, i'll try one day to post them up here.

I was against a 94-96 Caprice LT1. Factory except for a stall.

That was going to be my first guess lol, then I just kept going back and forth! +1 for Lincoln! :D
