I am going to be replacing the thermostat tower and outlet pipe. I am going to use the Jag 4.0 aluminum parts. I was wondering if you guys think that I should replace the water pump also. It has no problems yet, but I am going to be in the area. I only question it because the Ford pumps are expensive. I am on my origonal degas bottle also, what do you think? Had anyone had water pump issues?

I have an 03 and had my water pump replaced about 8 months ago. Not sure how much it was since Cali's C.A.P program paid for it. I can check the paperwork and let you know what it cost. Also I've seen some pretty cheap ones online.

Are ford thunderbird pumps out of production as well??

EBay seller Chris' Foreign Parts has the updated water pump with the metal impellars for(for our Gen 1's) around $75. Preventitive maintenance cannot be a bad thing.

Do new OEM pumps have metal impellers? It looks like the 3.9 water pump is still in production from Ford, but does it still have the plastic impeller?

Gen 2 water pumps do and some Gen 1 depending on the build date in 2001.

I have decided to do the water pump and the degas bottle also. Has anyone had trouble with any of those hoses (you know the ones with the plastic sections), or the plastic crossover pipe? I want to replace anything that has a reasonable chance of failure, but I dont want to buy parts that I dont need.
