To those of you with the F90BT

to clarify, the F90/F900 (same thing) boots up with sound in about 10 seconds or so. It does take about 45 seconds before its fully "on" and all features are available.

Which reminds me. The D3 allows you to customize your boot up (aka splash) screen AND the background. The F90/F900 only allows you to customize the splash screen. The background is always a dull and boring black.

As for the nav, I have only used AT&T nav (or Telenav) so that's what I'm used to. I'm sure any if these units would be better as far as accuracy goes. Though I can search for gas by price in a matter of seconds, then of course I could always just typ in the address once I find it on my phone.

I might still be sold on the f90/900 , the only thing keeping me away from the Z is the fear of the motorized screen breaking that you guys instilled upon me lol.

Are the 4volt preamplifier outs that big of a deal. Honestly the 90 is only $20 more than the 900 on amazon. So far the best price I can find.

If you are going to spend that much on a receiver that has that many faults why not check out the double dins made by alpine. I have an alpine indash flip out with a 7 inch screen that has everything that the pioneer has with the exception of bluetooth installed. Plus the ipod control works a hell of a lot better, since they had one of the first ipod controls out on the market they have kinda worked out the bugs. And, the motorized displays they have work awesome in my opinion since I have nevedr heard of one breaking.

your alpine has voice recognition and MSN live updates for traffic all built in w/ nav for around $500

you have never even heard of one breaking, how many have you owned, how many have your friends owned, and for how long, i'm just saying, i think it odd that you have never even heard of one breaking i sell a ton of them and at least 15%-20% break with in the first year (thank god under warranty ) and nearly half of them break by the 3 year mark

Its a shame that the 7 inchers break like that... I think they are some of the best units on the market. I think, during my research, I have seen a few that have a detachable screen, so maybe that would be the way to go for a long lasting 7" unit.

I have looked at some Alpines... and after you said something about them I remember one of my buddies having one and loving it over all else. Though it lacked up to date features of its time, it had better sound quality. But that was years ago (and his opinion). I haven't seen any yet that have piqued my interest as much as the Kenwoods and Pioneers.

As of right now, I'm kind of leaning toward the Kenwood DNX6140. It does have everything I want in a unit. Bigger screen (same as the D3), GARMIN... plus it will match my dash better (no glossy black). I'm going to be pulling the trigger on something Thursday, so I still have some time to be swayed a different way.

I think I'm going to stick with my original plan and buy the f90bt... It does everything I want... 4v preamp outs... I like the SD slot in the front. Plus Windows CE... I'm a hackaholic lol. Also I hear you can load TOM TOM or Garmin software onto these via hack. Lets hope v3. firmware fixes current issues as well.

A lot of the reasons mentioned above is why I bought the F90 myself. I've had it almost a year and did the update to the 2.0 when it came out and all that good stuff. Honestly I haven't had any problems with mine except one thing. My bluetooth for my blackberry didn't work untill I updated it and then it only worked for a while and it stopped. My Ipod works everytime I plug it up, the only issue I have is my 8 gig usb, which is no big deal. Other than that, it works flawlessly. I'm not that big into hacking, pretty sure if I took the time to really read up how the guys are doing some of the things they do, I could do it, but a lot of that is just for personal touch. The motorized screen is what turned me away from the other models. I had a Kenwood motorized face unit back in the day where the whole face flipped all the way around and it looked like it wasn't a radio in the car, soon as I put it in and turned the key, it wouldn't flip over. After that I said never no more with a motorized face. So it's all up to personal preference and experience of what you want in a unit.

Yeah that's a neat idea to hide the unit like that. I'm kind of afraid of the lack of security the f90 has. But it should be here on Monday, I can't wait to install it.
