to clean new rotors or not?

I read an argument on a site with this poster saying you should wipe down both sides of the new rotors to get all protective oils off. Others say as I have done in the past to install new rotors and pads and it will get wiped clean in the operation of the brakes working. Anyone have anything to add to this?

this is what brake cleaner is for, just spray the :q:q:q:q out of both sides before putting pads and calipers on

i always spray them. i've seen rotors installed without being sprayed and be fine, but for like 2 bucks a can, i'll spray it anyway.

All new rotors are coated with an anti rust oil film. You have to remove this. I hate getting a grease finger print on them after cleaning them so how would complete coating in oil do? LOL Oil and new brake pads not a good mix. A little FYI I got from a tech friend. Finish clean rotors with soap and water like dawn. I have been cleaning rotors with brake clean forever but my LS I tried 5 different sets of pads on 2 new set of new rotors and turned rotors also and had brake squeal.(new calipers too) I got rotors turned new pads and washed rotors with brake clean then washed with dawn dish soap water and no noise.

Why would you want to run the risk of contaminating brand new brake pads. Not worth it for a $2 can of brake clean.

The oil is called cosmoline and its only used so that the rotor doesn't rust while sitting on a shelf waiting to be sold ...clean the rotor before installing

Or maybe you could just read the directions supplied with your new pads? ?
