Tires!

My car would rost the RSA's ,that were on it when I got it, from a dead stop. It will hardly chirp the Fuzion Hri's I have on now:( , by no means a top of the line tire.
 
We get plenty of snow in the winter, but the Mark will be sitting in the garage at that point so...

The RSA's just didn't drive well or handle well. I could spin them from a dead stop, and spin them on the 1,2 shift. With the Yokohama V4's tires I put on the car after the RSA's were shot were a huge improvement. I've never been able to spin them and they just seem to handle a lot better.
 
fusion makes a good tire. thats very reasonable in price. and seem to hook up pretty damn good I"ve been running the zri for some time now and loved them. even in the snow they did pretty good.
 
Ok that at least makes sense. Typically people make baseless attacks on tires from gut instinct or 'what they've heard'......

Guess I'm the only one, I liked the RSAs on my Townie when I had it and a couple of local Mark VIII guys have had good luck with them. The sentiment about very little traction from a dead stop is spot on, but (for me anyways) they stuck to the corners better than most other all season tires I've tried (yet to use Fuzions on my ride but they are great on my gf's Focus). On the highway is where I really liked them - remarkably stable and tracked well.

Not to mention they are the tire of choice for police pursuit vehicles around here. Makes sense that the police wouldn't care about traction from a standstill (the RSA's weakness) but moreso about load handling and highway handling. I've learned that I can usually trust the choices made by people who put the same products under more stress than I ever will :)

To each their own, I s'pose. Nobody else tried Wide Ovals?
 
I have RSA's on an 2002 Olds Intrigue w/3.5 dohc, they are decent handling tires, and have worn well, just kind of the type of tire you'd put on a DD-

I have Mastercraft (Cooper) Avenger LSR Sport, W (168 mph) speed rating, AA traction and a temp, 330 treadwear, 245/50-16's on my Mark, and they are AA traction, they are directional and I got them for less than $450 mounted and balanced at a local Smart Tire.

Because AA traction is a soft,sticky compound I do not expect to get tons of mileage out of them, but they have been on for almost 2 years now (about 6000 miles)still look great, and have great grip and are smooth and quiet.
 
If you look at ratings, make sure you're looking at ratings in the exact size and on something of similar weight. For example, I bought a set of falken st-115's in a 245 40 18 and the sidewalls split within 5k miles with good camber&alignment and at the correct psi. .. Others buy these tires in a 245 45 or 245 50 and have no problems.

Potenzas are the same way.

And I've never seen a good michelin, no matter what ratings claimed. There's some good ones out there I'm sure, but some tires in certain sizes are just junk. I've owned driven fixed and maintained 24 vehicles, like a dealer without a dealers license, and I'm only giving advice, I don't need anyone arguing me.

I also had RSA's (02 CVPI,) from a dead stop they're not great, and Fuzion Hri is what I changed to. IMO, the performance is comparable, but the road noise and price are in favor of the Fuzions.
