Was just wondering how much of a difference tires can make in the 1/4 mile. Talking only about street tires here, not drag radials or slicks.

I only have 4 runs under my belt, but I havent been able to get below 15.3
Im running BFGoodrich Traction T/As (standard touring all season).
Are the tires playing a role in my slow times or is it likely just poor launching.

I have 3 BFGoodrich G-Force Sport (high performance summer) tires which could fit on these wheels. If I put those on (assuming I bought a 4th) would it make much of a difference?

Also Ive heard that having tires mounted and unmounted several times a year is bad for the finish on your wheels, is this true?

Tires make ALL the diffrence. you can get drag radials for the street too. Mounting and unmounting doesnt hurt the finish of the wheels in the least, so long as the tire tech doesnt scratch the wheels. G force sports are really good for the street and corners, but isnt really that good for straight line take off. Traction T/As are trash tires imo. Traction in traction ta really refers to wet weather traction, when compaired to tires like the primear A/S or primear touring.

Are you spinning off the line? The first time I went down the track I had a 60 foot of 2.19 with no spin I have never spun at the track with street tires and I also run 15.3s.

if u dont spin YET than u dont need better tires.add a gear and u will spin stupidly(sorry for the grammer).look at the traction rating on the tires and that might tell u what tire works better.it might be better all around to get better rubber for other condition- braking or messin around on the street.if u are spnning with your old tires try lowering the pressure to about 25psi.not too low or u will cup the tire.what i would do is lower the pressure and do a dry hop to see how dark the burnout is and adjust from there - dark in the middle means put in less air, dark on the outside means put in more air.
