I have a set of cobra 17x9s and the fronts need new tires before I put them on. I had 245/45/17s but I found a pair of 235/45/17s that are brand new and was wondering if I could use them or if it would be to much of a stretch? Id really like to use them since Im basically broke and can't afford tires.

245/45/17s are already IMO too short of a sidewall to look good on a Mark VIII. And yes, 245s are already stretched pretty far. 235s would work, the euro/ricer/stance/hellaflush idiots have done more of a stretch than that.. they won't come off the bead if inflated properly. But if you do it and happen to look at a curb funny, you're gonna get curb rash.

Use them if your current tires are getting to be unsafe, then save up a few hundred bones and get some Nitto NT555s in 255/50/17.

Way to small diameter size (either size you listed for that matter) to match the factory diameter...

please dont do that...Way too short. So short you might even be in danger of smacking your oil pan, then all the sudden tires are cheap.

255-45-17 or 245-50-17

Here is your size variations in real numbers so you have a better idea what you are asking.........

255/50/17
255=10" tread width
50=5" sidewall
Tire diameter is 27"

255/45/17
255=10" tread width
45=4.5" sidewall
Tire diameter is 26"

245/45/17
245=9.6" tread width
45=9.6" sidewall
Tire diameter is 25.7"

235/45/17
235=9.3" tread width
45=4.2" sidewall
Tire diameter is 25.3"

If anyone needs a size comparision to make a decision on size you can go to this website and do gear ratio values and tire size change calculations, metric tire to inches, ring and pinion tooth count to calc what gear you have and speedometer check also. I been using this site for years for this.

Well for the rears I have 275/40/17 so what tire for the front should I go with to match the rears? I dont want a 275 upfront.

I would go 245/50r17 or 225/50r17. You can always sell your 235's for something to offset the price of buying new ones that are a proper size for your mark

A match staggered set in 17's closest to stock height would be 255-45-17/285-40-17. Cooper makes the Sport A/S in those sizes which is a damn good tire. Could very well be available in the NT555 since they make loads of sizes in that tire series.

yeah I think ill go with the 255/45/17 upfront. Just waiting on the one wheel to come back from chrome and then they are going on the car...when I get the tires.

I've been down this road... ditched my 275/40/17 rears and 245/45/17 fronts and now run 255/50/17s all around. If 245/50 was more commonly produced, I would've considered that size.

The cheapest price I got for my one wheel was $250. Everyone else wanted $350-450 but thats because this is NJ and the laws for disposing of the chemicals makes it very expensive. I looked online and this place in California charges $145 a wheel but I figured shipping would be high.
