Tire question again (All Season): What are you running on your LS8 and do they perform well?

We have a 2004 LS V8 and will need to replace the Michelin MXM tires (OEM) with a set of good all season tires.

We do have snow tires for the core winter months so these would have to do well in dry/wet weather and have decent light snow handling in early/late winter snow if the snow tires are not on the car yet or have been taken off.

What are you all running and what do you like about them. Looking for good dry/wet handling and nice ride quality - nice ride, good road manners on straightline, braking, decent cornering, low road noise, tire wear (I'm guessing V, W, or Z rated), etc. I think the OEM Michelins were V or W rated?

Also, I assume it's OK to run 245/45/17 on the stock 17 inch rims as an alternative to the 235/50/17?

I am considering the following but know that Yokohama has some decent tires also:

BFGoodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S (245/45/17)

Yokohama AVID W4S (245/45/17)

Bridgestone Turanza Serenity (235/50/17)

Bridgestone Potenza G 019 Grid (235/50/17)

Dunlop Sport Signatures All Around...Lil Louder then the Pilots, But They are known for rain and light Snow performance! And you can find them for 150 a piece!

I have Goodyear Eagle F1 all-season tires. I don't think you can find another all-season tire with the same performance specs for the price

i dont have an LS but i put the goodyear assurance tripletred on my town car and i love them. excellent in rain and light snow. course they arnt rated for high speed. i think 97mph

i have the bfg super sport a/s. really good all around tire at a really good price. They got me through winter fine. pretty quiet, good in the rain, good steering response, and really good dry traction- even at the track with the nitrous on. you won't be able to spin them on a stock ls unless you brakestand.

Eagle F1 GS-D3

I like them.

The Eagle F1 GS-D3 is Goodyear's Max Performance Summer radial developed for driving enthusiasts who want more performance from their factory stock or aftermarket-tuned sports cars, sporty coupes and performance sedans. The Eagle F1 GS-D3 excels in wet conditions by delivering class-leading hydroplaning resistance and traction, as well as offers competitive dry performance. Like all summer tires, it is not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

i went with yokohama Avid TRZ all seasons.

Great tires in rain and snow. Not so great on ice but what is?

Used to have toyo proxes on it, yokohama's are the best wet weather tire ive ever used. Great ride and very low road noise. Most places wont reccomend them because there speed rating is lower. to be honest with you i think speed rating is bull:q:q:q:q. Why do i need a tire rated for 100mph+? the posted speed limit is 60-70mph. They will also get on you about "well the car wont handle the same", my personal opinion its a 4 door lincoln, it will always handle like crap. atleast when i went with my tires the ride comfort got better.

i beleive the avid trz's are rated to 112 or something.

My summer tires are bf goodrich g-force, but aslong as they make a Avid TRZ i will buy it. just a great all around tire for price and all weather performance.

Yokohama YK520 is what I went with. 245/45-17. Pretty nice tire, excellent wet traction and dry. I really like them so far. A little pricey but I think I made a great selection.

Thanks for the input....some good responses. Not a fan of Goodyear tires (had a "bad" set of RS-A z-rated tires on my Mustang and Goodyear refused to help even when new - haven't used Goodyear since) but curious about the Yokos (I'll have to check pricing on the 520's; didn't see the TRZ model) as I've never used them. I have Bridgestone Blizzaks WS60's on MSW alloy rims for winter so only need an A/S tire for about 5 months of the year.

Does the 245/45/17 throw the speedo or anything else off?

245/45-17 is an alternate Lincoln approved tire size. I have not seen any difference is my speedo. I think the Yokohamas are great, I've run them on other cars as well. This particular tire has a 60,000 mile warranty, speed rating of V (which is better than the stock Michelins) and they wear great. I'd give them a shot.

I would recommend the Bridgestone G 019 Grid. I have the Potenza G 009 on my LS and have had no complaints from them. Even handle well in the snow (for all seasons). I'll replace what I have now with the G019 Grid when it is time....

The G 019 Grids are selling for $129 each at tire rack less a $50 rebate on a set of four....good price.

got Michelin agility touring tires on my Eldorado, , ok in the snow and rain,(but the caddy needs weight in the trunk ) rated for 80k miles, after 25k they show little to no wear!!

most people i know take there LS's well above 100mph, however if you NEVER take her over 100mph then you dont need 100+ tires, most tires that are made for slower speeds do handle alot differently, so you need to be careful when getting ajusted to different tires

Don't mind him, he hates his LS.

yea, it showes

it might not be a M3 on the track, but my car is far from handling like crap

Personnally I would go with a dedicated summer tire and a dedicated winter on some steel wheels. But thats me...

In Toronto I would say the Continental ContiExtremeContact for a high performance all season. Personnally I would go with a dedicated summer tire and a dedicated winter on some steel wheels.

They give up a little in dry traction in exchange for better snow/ice performance.

They are ranked 3rd on Tire Racks Ultra High Perfomance All Season chart.

(you may need to cut and paste the link).

I generally buy my tire from Tire Rack, but even if you don't It's a free site that you can compare tires at will and read what others have to say about any that you are interested in.

I use Michelin Pilot Sport P2-245-45 ZR18s on Verde Kaos rims for daily going in good weather. They're glorious even if it rains. However, they're USELESS in snow. I go back to the factory 17 inch rims with Pilot All-Season tires for winter.
