OK, 2000 LS V8 Non-sport. Yesterday afternoon I had Fuzion ZRi's in 245/45-17 put on the back. Now my Traction Control is going crazy! It was done at a reputable shop (Expert Tire) that has done work for me before. Is there a problem with that size tire on this car? Under moderate to heavy acceleration the traction light on the dash starts flashing. For example, getting on I-75 I gave it a little gas and it hit third it HIT HARD! Never happened before. Doing about 60 coming home last night and went to pass somebody and the t.c. light came on and wouldn't stop blinking. I cut my traction control off and it was still blinking. I couldn't get above 40! WTF!!! I can't drive with my traction control turned off all the time. Any help or advice is much appreciated. I guess I'll have to take it back to the shop Monday.

I have an idea. You say you out on the 245/45-17 on the rear only. What size tires are on the front of your vehicle? If they are not identical (size not brand) the vehicle will receive two different speeds form the front and back and think the wheels are slipping (especially if the rear tires are smaller in diameter). The error is exagerated by increased speeds so that is why highway driving would be no-go.

Double check the front tires for the same size and get back to us. Tire shop could have also accidentally disconnected/broken one of the ABS speed sensors while they were installing tires to give you a similar problem.

Let us know what you find and we'll help you out.

thats what I was thinking too, the difference is size would definitely do that to the traction control

Ok, yeah I've got 225/55-17 on the front. This is my first car with t.c. and it never occured to me that different size tires would be a problem. Thanks for the input guys.

Yeah there's a 4% size difference between front and back, I guess that's enough to throw the computer into a tizzy!

225/50 would be a good match on the front. 225/55 is way too big compared to the rear. This makes the rear tires spin faster than the front, making the computer think that they are slipping, activating the TC.

You should find yourself another tire shop. Seriously. This is an idiotic amateurish mistake. A good shop would never have installed those mismatched tires. And now you know why.

The 225/55-17s were already on the car. Both of the back tires were leaking (2 nails in one of them!). I was just gonna replace the back ones with the size I wanted and get a new front set in a month. Oh well. It's my own fault for not thinking first.
